The Serene Scoop
Serene Hills Elementary School --- Oct. 7, 2022
Message from the Principal:
This has been one fun-filled week! We wrapped up our Apex program on Friday with a super exciting, obstacle course! The smiles on the students' faces were priceless. One student even said to me, "This is the highlight of my life!" While I'm sure that student will have many more "highlights of his life", I think that pretty much sums up the pure joy of our Sailors.
At drop-off and pick up please remember to stay clear of the handicapped parking unless you are qualified and have the tag/plates to prove it. Lakeway PD and LTISD PD will be making rounds, and wanted me to give a warning before they begin issuing citations which can run around $500. In addition, we do truly have families that need those spaces and we want them to be free for them, when they need them.
Also, in the side lot on Trophy Drive, please either pull along Trophy Drive and stay out of the lot, or pull into a space in the parking lot when you pull into the lot.
I hope you all have a great, extra-long weekend with your families. Remember, NO SCHOOL on MONDAY! :)
Warmly,
Keegan Luedecke
SHE Principal

ACE (Across Campus Enrichment)
Next Friday, Oct. 14th, we will have the return of our incredibly popular, student enrichment program, ACE. This is so exciting for our students.
Q: What is ACE?
A: ACE is an engaging program for students, centered around their interests and that aren't necessarily covered in the curriculum. This semester, some of the offerings include: origami, yoga, Ninja Warrior, chess, and card making! Student choice is an important part of their education experience. Students have made their selections and will find out their cluster next week.
Q: When will ACE be for the fall semester?
A: ACE will be Friday mornings from 7:45-8:30 AM. The program will run from Oct. 14th - Dec. 1st (7 Friday sessions).
Q: Who leads ACE classes?
A: All teachers and paras will lead an ACE class, with two staff members per class. (PreK & ECSE will not participate campus-wide, but may choose to do some form of enrichment in their department.)
Q: Sounds fun! What do I do now?
A: Be sure to have your students here ON TIME on Fridays, as we begin promptly at 7:45. They will not want to miss a moment!

DISCOVERY/GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM: PARENT REFERRAL INFORMATION - DEADLINE 10/21
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via this google form.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit their google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator.
Parents can submit referrals for screening up until the end of the first 9 weeks, by October 21, 2022. Students will be tested during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the student will have to wait until the next year's screening opportunity, as the spring screening session is only for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed.
The forms and further information about the program can be found here.
Once the request is submitted through the google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email when the testing dates are set and share additional information. Please plan to attend the Elementary GT Parent Night (virtual event) on October 14 at 11:30 AM for an informative presentation about the program along with a Q&A session with your campus GT teacher.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator directly, at any time, with questions. Please reference the contact information below:
