Hopkins Middle School Newsletter
August 2nd, 2022
Aug 2, 2022
Dear Students and Parents,
August is already underway! School is right around the corner. I wanted to update you on a few of the projects we’ve been working on at HMS, introduce our new staff, share the grade level recommended supply list, and remind you of our Orientation times.
First, our maintenance, grounds, and custodial staff are hard at work keeping our building in top shape. New paint on the exterior and some major reworking of the landscaping clean up our main entrances. Our building is getting deep cleaned and will be ready for us in no time! We’ve also been able to construct a new conference room at the north end of our Media Center. This will be a great room to have meetings with parents, students, and staff.
Speaking of staff, we have added four new teachers to our team this summer. First, Ms. Lindsey Schwartz will be our new 7th-grade Math teacher. She comes to us with 7 years of experience. Next, Mrs. Sarah Ruegsegger will be our 7th-grade English teacher. She has 4 years of teaching experience. Ms. Leanna Savage is our new 8th-grade math teacher. She has been running her own tutoring business for the past few years. Finally, Mr. Travis Myers will be our 8th-grade Science teacher. He has a year of long-term subbing experience.

Food Service Updates
Families of Hopkins Public Schools:
Beginning with the first day of school for the 2022-23 school year, school meals will no longer be free to all students. Congress did NOT pass the waivers to continue free meals to all students. We will go back to applications to determine free and reduced meal eligibility. Those applications will be available after July 1st. We strongly encourage all families to fill out the applications on-line to ease the process, information will be in your back to school packet.

Cell phones are to be turned off and kept in their lockers during the school day. Cell phones that are used during the school day will be confiscated and must be picked up by a parent.
