Mrs. Turner's November News
Conference Statistics
Here are the results:
- 74% of the fourth and fifth grade parents responded to the survey.
- 57% were parents of 5th grade students and 42% were parents of 4th grade students
- 90% of respondents said they felt the conferences were the same, more or much more meaningful
- 65% said they were more or much more meaningful than past conferences
- 88% of the respondents said they learned the same, more or much more than previous conferences
- 64% of respondents said they learned more or much more than previous conferences
- 93% of respondents said they were fine with waiting for progress reports when teachers have more information on the child (at the time of conferences, we had only met 7 – 8 days depending on which day of the week your child attends. Report cards would have to filled out the week prior to conferences so teachers would only have 6-7 days worth of data).
- 87.81% of respondents said they were indifferent or enjoyed having others in the classroom
Curricular Areas:
4th grade students are deep in research on their world problem. We meet weekly to discuss note taking headings and taking notes that are relevant and significant to the their
topic.
Math:
- Students completed their first two packets and additional gas mileage problems to earn a trip to the AD DIY lab.
- Our next math unit will integrate world population / hunger with math.
Topic Study:
Topic study is blowing me away this year! Student engagement and depth of thinking are the best I have seen in over 15 years of teaching PEAK. We made some modifications in how our independent research is conducted and the results are significant. Students are finishing their 3-5 minute videos and expert vocabulary. As students wrap up these two projects, we will begin to select personal ways to express our knowledge. Students will no longer use a menu to select projects but design a project/ product based on the Bloom's level of thinking they want to express.
