Building Strong Connections: Educate. Engage. Advocate
Getting in the Flow of the School Year!
Hello Wisconsin Physical Education and Health Professionals!
We have had some amazing fall weather lately, which has been great for getting students outdoors for Physical Education and enjoying some fall colors. Amidst all the planning, collaborating, midterms, and SLO/PPG/IEP and a host of other deadlines you may have at this time of year, I hope you have been able to take some time out to enjoy the great outdoors as well.
I hope you are having a great semester with your students so far, and have had a chance to implement some innovative teaching strategies with your students and colleagues. Thank you for all that you do to provide quality health and/or physical education to your students, and for future professionals in WHPE, we are happy you have chosen this profession to help provide the best education we can for future generations of students!
I look forward to seeing many of you at the WHPE Convention next week and spending time with future professionals and educators who are passionate about teaching health and physical education. A tremendous amount of work has been done behind the scenes by Nicole Popowich, Keith Bakken, Brett Fuller, and Wendy Wiesjahn (WHPE convention planning), Kris Fritz (WHPE awards/exhibits), Penny Kroening (JRFH/HFH promotion/ recognition), and True Vang (WHPE convention app). If you see these people at convention, please thank them for their time and efforts to help make this a great convention for Wisconsin health and physical educators!

Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Model - Part 3: What Does Integration of the WSCC Model Look Like?
Integration of the WSCC Model - Sample Ideas
- Use the WSCC Model as a framework for supporting Coordinated School Health in your district.
- Use the Components of the WSCC model to change the culture and climate in the district to one of health and wellness linked to ESSA/academic improvement plans.
- Perform a district needs assessment of what is going well, where are there gaps, and where should you focus your district's time, talent, energy and funding.
- Provide professional development training on the 10 components of the WSCC Model based on areas of need.
- Incorporate the WSCC Model into WI DPI's Active Schools: Core 4+ program.
- Share in school health banners, email signatures, posters, brochures, websites, and newsletters.
- Create a WSCC Model wellness toolkit to share with district staff and share resources with students, families, and community members.

Send A Teacher To #SHAPENashville 2018 Convention Fundraiser
The T-Shirt Project for #ShapeBoston was a huge success. Two local teachers were able to attend the conference. The project is now focusing to raise funds to send one or two teachers to #SHAPENashville who would not typically be able to attend due to lack of professional development funds. T-shirts and other customized merchandise will be available for sale over the course of the school year.

Adopt-a-Gym to Help Houston Physical Education Programs
Introduction to Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR)- PE Central Online Course
Course taught by WHPE Member, Sandy Hagenbach
The course is designed to give the student the tools to implement TPSR into their lessons. Students will learn what TPSR is, why it is important to teach, how to assess and implement it. Students will read seven chapters, answer reflective questions, design lessons and create an action plan which will prepare them to implement TPSR. Students will learn what the TPSR awareness levels look like, and why they are important to both the teacher and student. Reading a blog on designing successful lessons will prepare students to design engaging lessons that introduce the TPSR levels to their physical education students.
