What's Happening?
Math: We are working diligently on memorizing multiplication facts. Your child will take quick timed fact tests on Tuesdays/Fridays. These scores do NOT get recorded as grades yet. Please work on flashcards at home for 10-15 minutes each evening. I am sending home a list of websites and apps that your child can use if you can't sit down and work on flashcards with them. I know how busy we all are! We will take a QUIZ over place value (standard, word, expanded forms on numbers up to the 10,000s place) on TUESDAY. Your child has notes in his/her math journal to review with at home. We will be moving into ordering and comparing large numbers this week. We will also take a day to review subtracting across zeros.
Reading: We are focusing on main idea and supporting details this week. This will help us during writer's workshop as we work on writing strong paragraphs. Our weekly basal story this week is Yoon and the Jade Bracelet. We will take the vocabulary and AR comprehension quizzes over this story on Friday. Check in with your child this weekend on how they are progressing toward their 1st quarter AR goal. You should see their current point total on their weekly behavior chart this weekend as well.
