Guzick's 2019-2020 Key Action Items
Lights! Camera! Action! "The Red Carpet" Weekly Spotlight
Coming down the red carpet this week is our teacher assistant, Ms. Jamaica Taylor! Our student culture team did an excellent job this summer planning for success in our cafeteria. This week, with the help of our teachers, students truly learned that the cafeteria is an extension of the classroom. We have a long way to go to be at 100% with students following our cafeteria expectations, but with the leadership of Ms. Taylor, we are well on our way!
Please join me in thanking Ms. Taylor for reinforcing our cafeteria expectations and holding students accountable for behaving positively in the cafeteria! The Spotlight this week is on her!
Excellence in Instruction: Writing Across the Content Areas
It is so very important that our students are engaging in effective writing practices in every content area. This school year we will continue to engage students in authentic opportunities to practice effective writing skills!
Each week I will highlight a Writing Across the Content Area (WAC) focus in the GOLD News. If you have questions about the weekly focus, please reach out to Mrs. S. Smith. She will continue to support our campus in the area of writing.
Instructional Expectation - Writing in Complete Sentences using SWAG
Morning Meetings - Building Guzick Student Culture
The effective implementation of morning meetings at Guzick will help to foster a positive student culture on our campus. It is an expectation that all Guzick Giant students participate in morning meetings every day using the four components of morning meetings (greeting, sharing, activity, morning message).
If you need support or assistance with conducting a morning meeting, please reach out to Mrs. B. Wilson. She is more than happy to support you with implementation.

IMPORTANT CHANGES: Morning Duty Expectatations - Starting the day with POSITIVITY
Morning Duty begins at 7:15am each morning. Please be in your morning duty location ready to receive and actively monitor our Guzick Giants! To ensure that we are ALWAYS striving for not just good enough, but being the absolute best, we are tweaking a few of our morning arrival procedures. Please provide feedback to myself or Mrs. Maldonado with how we can continue to ensure our students are embraced with positivity during morning arrival.
- Pre-K and Kinder will meet in the auditorium.
- First and Second grade will meet in the cafeteria.
- Third grade will meet in the gym.
- Fourth and Fifth grade will continue to meet on their respective hallway.
All students will need to be picked up no later than 7:40am each morning from their respective location.
We will encourage students who arrive after 7:35am to walk on the LEFT side of the hallway to avoid traffic jams.
