Summary
The Cold War began after world war II in 1947. The Cold War happened because the US. wanted to contain the spread of communist. The Us was trying to stop the Soviet Union because the Soviets were trying to spread communism when the U.S. believed in democracy. The Cold war was between the United States and the soviet Union. Different ways the US tried to stop the spread of communism are the Truman Doctrine which was good if you didn't like communism. There was also the Marshal plan which was created to stop going into a depression and someone else taking over. There was also the Korean War which was when the United States and UN decided to send troops on behalf of South Korea there was no final victory.
In the Berlin Blockade the Americans, British or French could not move men and supplies in or out of Berlin without crossing Soviet territory or airspace. Soviet troops began stopping Allied trains to check passengers and cargo, while Russian planes began entering Allied airspace over Berlin to menace planes flying in or out of the city. Russians held Allied road and rail shipments then sending them back to their original zones. They shut down services into west Berlin, closing roads, cutting telephone lines and blocking water supplies, only the air routs remained open. The airlift proved embarrassing for the USSR agreed to negotiations for the re-opening of Berlin. For the the Cuban Missile Crisis the crisis began with the discovery by US spy planes of Soviet missile sites on the nearby island of Cuba, John F Kennedy formed a committee, EXCOMM, to remove them. The crisis was eventually resolved through a secret deal, in which the Soviets withdrew the Cuban missiles in return for the withdrawal of American Jupiter missiles from Turkey and Italy.
