"April Showers Bring May Flowers"

This month our school will focus on a powerful little word. That word is YET. We will be teaching our students all about having a growth mindset. Students will learn that good things come to those who work, not just wait. Just like learning to read or ride a bike, practice makes progress. It's not always easy to get to the things we want to achieve but we simply have to keep trying, set our goals and intentions in the right direction and with time, we will accomplish what we set our minds to do. The power of this little word YET, is the belief that we can all improve and achieve success if we believe in ourselves and put our best self forth. Every learner will hit a learning curve but that does not mean that they aren't on the right path to success. I hope you all enjoy reading our April book of the month, The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi Illustrations by Lorena Alverez. It's hard to believe that we have made it to the last stretch of the school year! Now let's give it our ALL to get to where we need to be but perhaps not quite there YET.

  • April 5- April 9th Kindergarten and First Grade students will be taking their third quarter Fountas & Pinell benchmarks. This data will inform us on how to help your child as we ensure that we are providing our students with the instructional supports to support them achieving their goals. Teachers will be providing students with small group guided reading lessons based on this data during the school day. These lessons are targeted based on your child's reading level. If your child is a remote student, please be sure to join for your small group guided reading lesson.

  • April 10th - May 8th we are inviting all of our English Language Learners for additional academic support on Saturdays. Students will be working in small groups of 5-8 with a teacher. We will be using the resource Finish Line NY ELLS, 2nd Edition to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

  • April 7th is the deadline for families requesting to change from 100% remote to blended learning. If you have not done so already and would like to opt into In-Person Instruction, please complete and submit the Learning Preference Survey Families can also call 311 to complete the survey over the phone. Mr. Michael Venezia will be reaching out to our 100% remote families to confirm your learning preference. Please note any family can opt into Remote Learning at any time.

  • We will continue to use iReady as an additional resource to differentiate for our students and provide them with targeted instruction. This month you will see an emphasis on celebrating all students for their participation on iReady and recognizing students that are making progress in personalized instruction. Active participation is extremely important in achieving success in both reading and math. We will be working on iReady in school and we ask that your child spend at least 30–90 minutes per subject per week at home on iReady. That is only 5-10 min. per day. We are setting a goal of at least 70%-100% of lessons passed. Please visit the iReady Family Support Center for additional resources on how to support and encourage your child's success with iReady. As the weather gets warmer, incentives such as Rooftop Reading or Lunch and Learns with the teacher will be used to reward our students and encourage ongoing LEARNing.
