TRIBE CLASSIC (YOU MAY WEAR JEANS)
Message from Marty...
Next Monday will be the 6th-Annual Tribe Classic held at Dobyns-Bennett. For those of you that do not know, this is when Sevier and Robinson play their boys and girls' varsity basketball games in front of both student bodies at DB. This is a great day that showcases our dance, cheer, and basketball teams as well as many facets of our school.
Concessions will be sold that morning in the Big Gym before school for $3. They will bring them to class with them and then take them to the game. There will not be concessions sold at the game.
Buses will start showing up at approximately 8:10-8:15. Cheer and dance are going to be dropped off at DB so do not count them absent. A list of those groups will be sent out soon. The first bus will have the Girls' Varsity basketball team and their coaches along with Related Arts teachers (for supervision in the Dome) and Mr. Williams (bookkeeper). From there, students will be systematically dismissed to the buses. Just for your information, with the construction, our students are going to dropped off at their normal bus stop and walk "somewhat" through the school to the gym. Please try to keep them as quiet as possible even though we are only going to walk through classrooms in the Math pod. We are hoping to have everyone at Sevier by 9:15. We will sit on the "Home" side behind the scorers table and the benches. You will supervise your own class. Please be aware of kids going to the Restroom and only let them go individually if possible.
Here are the teachers needing coverage and who will cover their kids:
McCormick - Hilton
Williams - Markl
Blair - Fissel
Erika - Cheek
When we return from Sevier, we will eat a Bag Lunch as we did on the half day before Christmas. We hope to do this as quickly as possible. What we need to make sure of is that we get complete grade levels back together so they can all eat lunch at the same time.
That afternoon, our goal is to have an Evacuation Drill to the Renaissance Center at approximately 1:30. We have not had one in two years and must have one this year required by law so we decided this afternoon would be a great time to do it. But in order to get it completed, we have to get our kids through lunch. There will be more information on this drill coming soon from Dr. Flora.
I may have left something out and made some mistakes. Please let me know if there is something that you feel I need to correct.
Here is a schedule of how things will work at the Dome once we arrive.
9:15 - Girls Warm-Up Begin
9:26 - National Anthem
9:30 - Tip-Off Girls Game
Halftime - Sevier Dance then RNR Cheer
Between Games - DB Sparkle Squad
10 minute Warmup for Boys
10:50ish - Tip Off Boys Game
Halftime - RNR Dance, Sevier Cheer
12:00 Start Heading Back

Nursing News...
Just wanted to touch base with you all about Monday's game. I will be riding the bus over and back with Mrs. Duncan's class because of student health concerns. I'll have emergency and scheduled meds and some first aid stuff for our students and some tylenol and ibuprofen for adults if needed.
I will be sitting on second floor above the "Buc Van Huss" sign near the typical gym entrance. That area is usually empty and both middle school nurses will be sitting there for easy ID in case a need arises.
I will have my radio.
I will have my cell. 423-863-5728.
Thanks and GO WARRIORS!!

News from Nick....Relocation! Relocation! Relocation!
We will plan to have a relocation drill on Monday after the Tribe Classic around 1:30. We will make a call over the intercom. If it is raining, we will reschedule it. Students will find their first period teacher once they get to their location at the Renaissance Center. Some things to remind students about are:
- No talking there or back
- Don't bring anything - don't stop at lockers, etc.
- Look for any trash left behind when we leave
6th Grade - Theater: Enter at the Wateree Street side. LeAnn Franklin will manage attendance.
7th Grade - Gymnasium: Enter at the back of the bu building using the canopy entrance. Vicky Stoops will manage attendance.
8th Grade - Rooms #239 and #310. Enter at the back of the building using the door that does NOT have a canopy, then up the stairs. Debbie Hash and Kelli Ferguson will manage attendance in room #239 and Michelle Kincaid will manage attendance in room #310.
Roop - 6th Grade
Weston - 7th Grade
Baker - 8th Grade
ISS - with regular 1st period
Once all students are in their appropriate gathering areas, check roll. Admin will release you to return to school.
Grade levels are welcome to arrange their schedule for the remainder of the day.
Junior Clinic and All City Band
Students who make Junior Clinic will be out of the building all day on Friday, February 15. This will affect between 30-50 kids will make it (15-25 per grade level, 7-8).
This email is a heads up about All-City Band. We are going back to the 8th-Grade-Only format this year. All 8th grade band students will be out of the building Monday, February 25, until around noon. They will start at DB and eat lunch at DB. A roster of students was sent in a previous email.
Kyle's Corner...
Welcome back! I wanted to remind everyone about their current class rosters and NCE scores for the past two years. Hopefully, you had time before Christmas or will make time in January to dig into your students' TCAP data and determine your greatest opprtunites for growth with your current students.
As we discussed at the grade level meeting on December 14, we would like for each grade level content to identify students who will be on our "focus list" this year. This "focus list" is simply a list of students that you beleive can be at the proficient level on this year's TNReady assessment.
Please spend time as a grade level content identifying the following:
- 6 Special Education Students - Any student with an IEP that you are striving to help score proficient on this year's TNReady. This list can and should include any special education student that you beleive can reach the proficient level - even if they were proficient on last year's assessment.
- 12 New Proficient Students - This list is for non-sped students that were not proficient on last year's assessment that you believe can score proficient this year.
Please record your students on the Google Sheet below. There is a tab for each content. We will review your grade level's "focus list" at our January grade level meeting. Therefore, it is important that each team has this completed by Friday, January 25, 2019.

High School Planning Student Recommendations due in Powerschool-January 18
-Please remember to err on the side of giving a child a chance or opportunity to succeed in a pre-AP class versus not (I will run custom student reports and place it on the shared drive so that you can see based on TVAAS which students are projected to be in the top 25%
- DB requests that you also consider ACT Aspire data when making recommendations
- Please include any important notes in PS (such as- parent request for recommendation)
Duty and Supervision Action Team Report
- It is an expectation that you will be at your duty at the assigned day and time. This is happening for the vast majority of you, but we have noticed that this can be an issue from time to time. We will be watching this more closely and will send an email directly to the teacher who is not on duty. Please be aware that this will be documented toward your professionalism at the end of the year.
- When you are absent, we need you to make arrangements to have your duty covered. Subs should not be covering your duty. A suggestions was made to work it out in advance with a partner teacher to cover for each other and to notify with a quick text when you are out. Whatever you plan, you need to make sure you have the duty covered. This also applied to lunch and hall/bathroom duty. All locations are essential for supervision and we will be held liable if there is not coverage due to negligence and an incident happens in that area.
- Morning duty is 7:15-7:35. Please make morning plans so that you show up on time and plan to stay until 7:35 at your duty location. Afternoon duty is 2:45-3:05. On duty days, you will need to plan to have a quick exit out of your classroom to be at your duty location on time.
I have included links to our duty schedules below for your reference. They are also available in the JSMS shared drive. It is the work of all of us that contributes to making Sevier a great place to work and a safe place for our students to learn. Thank you all for all that you do!
CULTURE CLUB DUES ARE DUE!
DB ACCESS NIGHT
Dobyns-Bennett has scheduled AP/ACCESS Night for January 28th @ 5:30 p.m. in the Pridemore Theater. This event will provide information to students and parents about EPSO opportunities at Dobyns-Bennett High School in the way of Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and Dual Credit opportunities. (Although there are additional ways to earn EPSO's at DB, we want to communicate these before registration begins on January 29th!) Other opportunities will be shared with students within their Program of Study area and during sessions which will be held Fall 2019. I wanted to communicate this date with you so you can place it on your calendar and begin to communicate the information with parents.
Once the TNDOE shares with us the "EPSO Ready" data file, we will be able to encourage students and communicate directly with them what has been recommended as potential EPSO's based on their TVAAS data in addition to their ASPIRE performance.
As always, DB wants to continue to push students to the next level and challenge them to be the best they can educationally. We are looking forward to sharing these opportunities with parents and students January 28th!
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks so much!
