2/9/22 - He Pānui Wiki Ono, Whānga Tuatoru
Tēnā koutou katoa (hello everyone)
Happy 'Start of Spring' and what a lovely start it has been. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the sunshine over the past few days and everyone certainly seems to have a 'spring' in their step. A huge thanks to our lovely BoT for the surprise shout on Wednesday - we think gym memberships might be needed next term.
Classes are in the midst of 'Gladdy's Got Talent' practices and we are pleased to announce that tickets can now be ordered from Kirstan (we will be accepting donations at the door when you arrive for the performance). To begin with, each family can order 5 tickets. We will also have a wait-list for those families wanting more than 5 tickets. Extra tickets will then be re-allocated to those on the waitlist. To order your tickets, please email office@gladstone1.school.nz or phone 06 372 7601.

Assembly
Well done and thanks to Logan Mason and Sam Tosswill for running this week's assembly. Super work e tama - loved the guess the music section & it was great to have Charlie Post visiting from the BoT. Well done to - Edith Mason; Evie Dick; Hannah Douglas; Ella Strang; Lucy Mckay & Alice Thompson who are our 'Whetu o te Wiki - Stars of the Week'. The group did an awesome job of being PE Shed monitors this week. They went over and above sweeping & untangling the skipping ropes. Awesome mahi.
Well done to the following students who have been recognised by their teachers for either displaying kaitiakitanga & excellent progress in their learning: Benji Gardner; Rosie Walters; Frances Williams; Jack McGregor; Nikau Percy; Abel Porter; Saxen Alexander; Sam Tosswill; Asa McPheat; Patrick Hanson and Olivia Palmer.
Thanks very much to everyone who made a donation to the Wellington Free Ambulance - we know that the money raised will be very much appreciated.
Have a great weekend everyone and a special mention for all the fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers out there - enjoy your day on Sunday.
Ngā manaakitanga,

FoGS Update
National Party Quiz Night FoGS Fundraiser - Friday 9th September
The awesome FoGS committee and equally awesome whānau helpers are kicking into action again this time catering for the upcoming National Party Quiz. It is a re-run of the catering that was put together for the Complex Quiz night.
Please let Hayley Quirke (027 766 5009) know if you are available to help on the day and/or night. We will be gratefully accepting baking contributions - delivered to school on Thursday the 8th of September.
Plant Stall
Our plant stall has gained quite the following over the years, but we need plenty of plants in order to maintain it’s stellar reputation! All types of plants sell well - veges, herbs, shrubs, flowers and natives - we’ll take any you can spare! We’ve also found garden pots and ornaments are popular, as well as indoor plants - any cuttings gratefully received. Message Kat on 022 425 7760 if you need any potting mix or pots, or if you’d like some help with potting up. Similarly, if you have plants potted up but don’t want to look after them until November, let us know and we’ll take care of them for you.
Scarecrow Making
This year the Scarecrow Fair theme is 'Space'. Last time we did a space theme, we even had an instructional reading book published about it - 2010.
Teachers will be getting groups organised towards the end of the term ready to make their scarecrows on Wednesday the 19th of October (Week 1 of Term 4). We will be running the making the same way we did in 2021 which worked brilliantly. Kourarau will make theirs first thing, followed by Ruamahanga in the middle of the day and Ōnoke in the afternoon. Syndicate teachers will send requests out for whānau helpers via SeeSaw if they need extra pairs of hands. Please also take the time to think about creating your own scarecrow for your gate.
Gladstone Rugby Club Trip to Huntley
It was fantastic to hear all about the recent Gladstone Rugby Club game against Huntley. Here is a run down from those who were able to go: It was such an awesome day out and the rugby was great.. they played brilliantly, lost 26-21 but gave them a run for their money, and was the first time many of them had played 15 aside, full field! Logan was player of the day, best back line player was Hugo and best front was Kit Oliver (Wainuioru). Afterwards we all got to enjoy a boarding house dinner in the dining all with all the Huntley kids (and hear about Mr Browns antics)!
Beehive Wanted
We are still looking for a donation of a healthy nuc or hive. If anyone has contacts that might be interested in helping us out please let us know here at school.

Interschool Dressage Competition
Are there any of your young riders who would be up for the Solway interschool dressage next month? We have a team of 3 so far. It is a really great interschool competition to attend. Riders need to be able to walk trot and ideally canter off lead. If your interested contact Juli Walters on 0221910012 or Juli.walters@animalsbackinaction.co.nz.
