Wednesday
Our first day was a fantastic start to the year! We focused our instruction and activities around the book, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. In the story, a little raccoon is nervous to start school, so his mom kisses his palm and tells him that he just needs to touch his cheek to feel her love while he is at school. We created our own kissing hand using our thumbprints to remind us of our parents love while we were at school on Wednesday. The rest of the day we participated in various games and teambuilding activities to get to know each other. Some of these games were: balloon bounce, rabbit hole, and a hula hoop challenge.
Thursday
On Thursday, we collectively created classroom expectations by reading David Goes to School and No, David. We discussed good choices and bad choices in the classroom, lunchroom and on the playground. Our first math game was "Roll and Cover". Students rolled a die and stacked cubes to represent the number they rolled. They needed to cover all the numbers on the page. Then, students found a partner to continue practicing their math skills. They played "Bump" by rolling a die and placing one cube on the number to claim that spot. They could bump their partner off if they got the same number. Then, we drew David and illustrated a picture of a good choice they should make in the classroom. We added the good choice to a speech bubble near David's head. We also continued forming relationships and learning the names of our classmates.
Friday
Today, we introduced Pete the Cat. We started by rockin' out in our school shoes. After singing along, we each got a pair of shoes to decorate and then drew our bodies in the school shoes. For our math activity, we learned about patterns. We colored Pete the Cat items based on the pattern given. After a movement break or two, we completed a writing activity based on the book, Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. One game we all played was a Pete the Cat matching game. There were different colored shoes that we played memory with at our tables. By the end of the week we were exhausted, but we loved recess, music, lexia, p.e., and lunch!
Reminder/Information
Friday Folders - Please look through the Friday Folders and send back on Monday.
Daily Folders - Please check and empty the folder each night. There will be a behavior chart that illustrates how your child behaved each day, please keep this calendar in the folder at all times.
Snack - Please remember to pack a healthy snack each day. Snacks should be a bag or small container of fruit, vegetables, crackers or pretzels. We want to ensure that students do not confuse their lunch and snack. If you could remind your child what their snack is and if they should have hot or cold lunch it would help tremendously.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Eclipse
Please review the important attached document in regards to this coming Monday's solar eclipse. Please return the form or contract your child's teacher if you would like your student to remain indoors during the eclipse. If you would like your child to view the eclipse outdoors using solar glasses, no action is necessary.
