NIcholas Benedict and the Extraordinary Education
This book is more than review worthy in many ways. The story follows a young boy named Nick Benedict as he tries to live in a rundown orphanage with bullies, mean supervisors, and only one friend. He and John have many adventures at the Rothschild's Manor. The book has a LOT of words, so if you don’t exactly like reading, then this book isn’t for you. Then again, if you don’t like reading, why are you reading this? Anyway, even though the book has a lot to read, it really keeps you into it by using exceptional amounts of little twists and turns, and foreshadowing every so often. It has a unique personality, using interesting vocabulary and all kinds of interesting events and characters to spice things up just enough to keep you entertained. As for the characters, well, they’re just so alive, the book makes it seem that you almost think you really know them in reality. The book is a prequel to an entire series of books, which brings me to the ending of the book. This was the only thing that I didn’t like. It leaves you with less than a cliffhanger, purely just a lack of information to make a general ending. Overall, the book is great, giving you a good story, making you think about what will happen next. To be honest, it’s a pretty “extraordinary” book!

One warm spring day, me and my Dad were riding our bikes in the park by the lake at Country Walk. We saw something that looked like a bag, and walked over to it. Turns out it was a turtle! It was pretty big - a little more than a foot long and a foot wide - with a mostly brown shell, dotted with green. It was definitely alive, because we saw him moving a little bit.
We decided to get my friends Cameron and Hailey to show them. Once we got them, we went back over and showed them where the turtle was. When we looked closer, we noticed he had a fish hook stuck on him, right near one of his eyes. Then, we took him back to my friends’ house, so their Dad could drive him to the vet. They have a lot of animals at their house, so they knew a good veterinarian to visit.
The next day, I went over to Cameron’s house to check on the turtle. He was in a tank, and he seemed OK. They had put some lettuce in the tank so he could eat, along with some rocks and water so he would be comfortable. I was happy with that! Even better, the hook was also gone from his face, and the turtle seemed better.
My Mom researched what to do, and discovered it was best to put him back where we found him right away. So we took him out of the tank, and brought him back. As soon as we got him back to the lake, we put him down on the grass and let him go. I never knew a turtle could move that fast! He took off so quickly, he must have been happy. He went straight for the lake, and never looked back. We decided to name him Speedy!
Every time I walk around the lake, I look at it to see if I can see him. I wonder if he’s OK. I think Speedy is doing really well, because he’s home where he likes to be.
The Night Everything Happened…
By: Katie Graff
I was walking home from school one night and then it started down pouring out of nowhere. I started running as fast as I could so i wouldn’t be soaked by the time I got home. Once I got there my brother was waiting for me on the front porch to give me the news. We were moving… He told me to pack all of my things because we were moving to Las Vegas, because we never got to see our grandparents. I was devastated. I would miss all of my friends. It was so hard to tell them i was moving. It wasn't going to be easy. I started packing my room. It was the toughest thing to do. I started my way over to Lauren's house. “Hi Katie! Come in! You look sad. Want ice cream?”, Lauren asked. As always her cheerfulness would cheer me up, but not this time. I will be eternally sad this time. ¨Lauren, can we talk? This is really important,¨I asked, hoping that by the tone of my voice, Lauren wouldn't break out in tears. She dragged me by the hand up to her room. She patted the bed indicating where she wanted me to sit. As I sat down tears rolled down my face. As Lauren glanced over at me to ask what was important she saw the tear rolling down my face. ¨This must be really important if your crying Katie,¨She said trying to sooth me. She hugged me, then wiped the tear off my face. ¨Ok, I´m moving to Las Vegas. I didn't want to text you, so I came here, hoping to spend my last couple nights here, my mom is ok with it,¨I told her, glancing over at her smooshing her face into a pillow. I gave her a big hug. ¨But before I can stay I have to tell Chloe and Maddie. Then I have to get my stuff.¨As I told her she nodded her head. I walked down the long beautiful staircase as I made my way to the door. I ran as fast as I could to Maddie´s house. ¨KK! You're here!¨She yelled. I glanced at her with a sad look on my face. She automatically knew I was moving. ¨I´ll be right back, stay here!¨She yelled like she knew I was inviting her to a 3 night sleepover. ¨Ok! I'm ready to go to Lauren's house!!!!!!!¨She ran out of her house in the direction of Lauren´s. I text Chloe to meet us there.
She was on board, but not quite sure what was going on. DING DONG. ¨Chloe!¨ Maddie ran to the door to get her. Then she did the explaining for me…

I’m going to show you how to make slime.
Materials needed:
Wooden Spoon
Tablespoon
Mixing Bowl
Elmer’s Glue
Blue Laundry Detergent (Arm & Hammer works well)
Lotion (to make it stretchy)
Shaving Cream (to make it fluffy)
Baby Powder (to add texture)
Food Coloring (to add color)
Steps for Basic Slime:
First, pour about 1 cup of glue into the mixing bowl
Second, pour about 1/2 cup of laundry detergent into the bowl
Next, thoroughly mix the detergent and glue together with the wooden spoon in the mixing bowl
Once the slime is in a compact shape, continue to mix with your hands and the spoon until it doesn’t stick to your fingers
Now you have made slime!
Optional Steps for Different Types of Slime:
For stretchy slime, add about 1 tablespoon of lotion to the mixture
For fluffy slime, add about 1/2 cup of shaving cream
If you want texture in your slime, add about 2 tablespoons of baby powder
If you want to give your slime some color, add a little bit of food coloring and mix everything together
Have fun and be creative with your new slime!
Sports
By: Matthew Lutzker
Sports are a very important part of our lives. They impact our world all around us every day. Some popular sports today are football, basketball, baseball and soccer. These are team sports that are played throughout the four seasons.
A lot of people play sports every day. Soccer is played in the fall. Football is played in the fall and winter. Basketball is played in the winter through spring. Baseball is our summer past time. All of these sports are very fun to play.
Some favorite teams for the kids in our school are the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys in football. The Sixers, Cavs, Celtics and Warriors are some basketball favorites. In baseball, the Phillies, Yankees and Dodgers get a lot of cheers. The Union and Team USA are also very popular in soccer.
Whether playing or watching, sports are a big part of our MTES experience!

BREAKING NEWS!
Can you turn off the light, please? That’s talking to the whole world, you know. Literally! Satellite data from the Suomi NPP weather spacecraft show that the amount of global light pollution on earth is rapidly rising. This is happening mostly in areas like Asia, South America, and Africa. This is also somewhat happening in developed countries, like America. But the real problem is how the light affects animals. 60% of animals without a spine sleep during the day. You could see how this can affect ecosystems around the light. In my opinion, I think it’s awesome that the reporters brought this try “out of the dark”!
Student Survey on Future Jobs By Liam Stark
I have surveyed a total of twelve kids, who were all in my class of 6LS. I have surveyed an apparent total of six boys and girls. It seems most girls dreamed to be in one of those careers where you are in a lab or doing hard work involving the community, I’m not saying a majority of girls or mostly girls choose brainier jobs, they just seemed to choose those kinds of careers, as the boys answered my inquiry with a job that’s, well, one of those careers that require a little more “fun” than hard work. I don’t want you boys taking this the wrong way, but those job decisions are just as effective to society as those jobs most of the girls decided on. One fourth of the kids I have interviewed responded with an athletic job. One sixth decided on financial business related and Real Estate related careers. Another fourth chose jobs that entail working in a lab or working with science. The remaining four chose “Youtuber”, “Actress”, “Politician/Author”, and “Special Effects Maker Artist”.
Athletic Total: 3 Boys-2 Girls-1
Finances Total: 2 Boys-2 Girls-0
Medical/Scientific/etc Work Total: 3 Boys-1 Girls-2

The Night Before
Written by, Katie Borgstrom
The snow glistened like crystals on the ground,
As the Christmas carols were being sung all around,
The cool breeze howled in the dark night,
Causing Sally’s face to fill with fright,
She bundled up in her warm silk quilt,
Her confidence needing time to come rebuilt,
Her heart glowed,
As Santa rode,
Across the moon and below the stars,
Remarking that the presents will soon be ours,
Sally crawled right back into bed,
Closing her eyes and resting her head,
She soon woke up to a bundle of presents in wrapping paper,
One wrapped around the lego skyscraper,
She almost knew that she still heard Santa's bell ringing,
And his jolly old singing,
Up in the sky,
Right where she had seen him fly.
