DCES Panther News
December 18, 2019
Dear Panther Families,
We have a lot to be thankful for this year. 37 Chromebook computers were delivered to classrooms last week thanks to the generosity and support from our family members and community. Last year's Jog-A-Thon was a great success and PTA was able to purchase these Chromebooks for our students! Thank you!!!
The xeriscaping is looking great! The project is almost wrapped up. It certainly brightens up the front of our school.
Security Upgrade
Our 2nd successful Legislative Request from last school year is coming into action. Throughout the next couple of weeks, many of our security cameras are getting replaced, and we are adding in a few more around campus.
A BIG change that will have a BIG impact is the security upgrade to our exterior doors. We will soon have a key card access installed on our doors to enter the building.
At the main entrance door at the front of the school, we will have an access phone installed. The access phone will have video and audio features to communicate with the front office. This project might be completed during winter break, so please be prepared for this change when we return in January. More information will come as we learn about the new system and create some procedures.
Winter Break
The last day of school (for this decade!!) is Friday, December 20th. Please enjoy your time together during Winter Break. School resumes for students on Tuesday, January 7th.
Sincerely,
Jessica Chavez
Principal

The Volunteer Process has Changed!!
There are now 2 levels of background checks for volunteers.
$12 background check: "Supervised Access" allows regular volunteering in the classroom, at school events, but must not be left alone with students, including on field trips. Volunteers with this background check must stay with the teacher and whole group on field trips.
$44 background check: "Unsupervised Access" is a full FBI fingerprint clearance and allows you to volunteer for an After School Club, tutoring outside of the classroom, and may supervise a small group of students for field trips. If you are interested in this type of background check, please email Principal Chavez: chavez_jess@aps.edu.
When more information is released from APS, I will share that with you.
Please click here for more information or to renew your background check!
Background checks only last for 2 years. If you have a current background check, you will not need to renew early.
When you receive the email confirming you have passed the background check, please forward the confirmation email to our Secretary, Miranda at miranda.saiz@aps.edu.
