Catholic Schools Week Open House-You Belong Here!
A Note from the Principal
Dear SPB Families,
It just wouldn't be Catholic Schools Week without having a snow day thrown into the mix! Despite the weather today, our week has been filled with faith family, and fun starting off with Mass and Open House as well as student and teacher raffles, virtual Bingo as a school, making Valentine's Day cards for our deployed troops, and more. Although our students still have work to complete today, I am hopeful that they have some time to play a game as a family, build a snowman outside, or enjoy some hot chocolate topped off with some marshmallows. Feel free to email me a picture for social media to show how your family might be spending the day.
Online registration/enrollment is due TOMORROW, FEBRUARY 4. I kindly ask you to complete the online registration forms and submit the registration fee tomorrow. If your family is not planning to return, please make the school office aware of your decision. It is imperative that we have enrollment numbers so that we can plan accordingly for staffing for next school year. I sincerely appreciate all of the families who have submitted their registrations and fees.
There was a great response when we opened registration to outside families for preschool. If you have a child who you want to enroll in our preschool program, you must submit online registration and fee TOMORROW or you will lose your spot. Right now, two of our five classes have waiting lists. We are excited to have so many families who are eager to join our preschool.
Peace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal
Green Knight of the Quarter
Bryan Morton is an eighth grade student at Saint Paschal Baylon who is our Green Knight for the second quarter! Teachers were quick to share that Bryan was the perfect choice as our Green Knight. Bryan was nominated for the Green Knight award by Mrs. Peko. She wrote, “ Bryan is a thoughtful and conscientious student. He is very bright and tries his best in all subjects. Not only is Bryan a good student, but he is also very personable. We see this each and every morning as he reports the weather forecast during video announcements.” Mrs. Connors shared, “Bryan is a courteous, motivated, creative, and engaging individual! He shows great civility and character in that he greets everyone cheerfully, takes pride in his work, and readily offers support to his fellow classmates. He is a spark of positivity!” Mrs. Hanus commented that Bryan has a great sense of humor and that he is a very hard worker. Finally, Mrs. Sarosy shared that Bryan is polite, brings his sense of humor with him to PE class, and can work with just about anyone.
Bryan lives with his parents, his sister Caitlyn, and his cat Star. He spends a lot of time with his grandparents as well. The Morton family loves to spend time together. They enjoy binge-watching Marvel movies, watching football, going to parks, and traveling to Oglebay Resort in West Virginia. In his spare time, Bryan enjoys playing football. He was a captain on his team this year. He also likes to play basketball in gym class, participated in Brain Brawl and the Science Fair this year, and is unforgettable as our “weather man” during morning announcements. Brian’s favorite subject is Social Studies because, “Mr. Martin makes us want to learn.” In the future, Bryan plans to attend Lake Catholic High School, play football, and possibly pursue a career in coding.
When asked what makes him a Green Knight, Mrs. Morton shared that Bryan has always been very enthusiastic about whatever he is interested in, and Mr. Morton said that Bryan treats everyone with respect and gives his all in anything that he does. Bryan’s grandfather shared that Bryan is accepted by others and is very loving. His grandmother continued that Bryan is helpful and watches every Cavs game with her.
Friendly, funny, motivated, and kind were words repeatedly used to describe Bryan. Mrs. Leffler said, “Bryan has such a fun personality. He makes me laugh every day with his funny jokes and stories. He takes his "job" as the weather person for the SPB Broadcast very seriously and tries to make it fun and entertaining for the students every day.” Mr. Martin shared that Bryan has such a positive energy and any high school will benefit from his joyful disposition. Congratulations, Bryan, on this well-deserved honor!

Enroll Me FAQS
Q: I don't believe I have a log in for Gradelink; how can I get one?
A: Email or call the school office and we will email it to you.
Q: Where can I find the "Re-enroll" tab?
A: Once you log into Gradelink, the "Re-enroll" tab appears along the left side. If it does not appear, be sure you are logged in under your parent account rather than the student account. Also, you must use a desktop or laptop device to complete the process; the mobile app will not allow re-enrollment.
Q: Once clicking on "Submit," are parents able to access the information to edit or to print documents?
A: If you believe you made an error, please email the school office and we will review the submitted information and make changes for you. Printing of documents is not an option in the system for parents at this time.
Q: Is my child's (grades 1-8) enrollment complete once I click on "Submit?"
A: Enrollment is not considered complete until the $225 registration fee is received by the office.
Q: Is my kindergartener's enrollment complete once I click on "Submit?"
A: The enrollment process is complete once you submit the $225 registration fee; however, all incoming kindergarteners must go through kindergarten screening before final acceptance.
Q: Is my preschooler's enrollment complete once I click on "Submit?"
A: The application process is complete once you submit the registration fee for the particular program in which you are interested; however, your enrollment is not complete until you receive an official acceptance (a hard copy) from the school office.
Q: Can I send one registration check for my preschooler and my K-8 students?
A: Please send one check for all students in K-8, and a separate check for preschool. You may submit them in the same envelope, but put the student name/s on each check.
Q: What if I change my mind about my tuition payment plan after submitting my enrollment?
A: Please email the school office and we will make changes for you.
Q: I have a new student to enroll at SPB; how do I add them?
A: Existing families that have children already in the school can add other children not currently enrolled. Because they are enrolling a new student, they will need to create a temporary registration account for registering the new student as the information for the new student is not yet in Gradelink. This is the same process that prospective families go through when enrolling their children. Keep in mind that the login credentials used to log into their Parent Portal will not work here.
Parents will log-in to their Parent Portal using their Gradelink login username and password.
They will then click the Re-Enroll tab on the left sidebar.
They will click the Have a new student to enroll? link at the top right of the page.
They will then follow the steps outlined in Enrolling a New Student.
Scholastic Book Fair is Here!
Dear Parents and Families:
We’re excited to invite you to our Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.
After missing out on many beloved traditions, our spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from February 7-11 in the Jansky Learning Center.
Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

Keeping the Faith Listening Sessions
All stakeholders are invited to participate in Listening Sessions for the Keeping The Faith Strategic Planning Initiative for the Diocese of Cleveland Elementary Schools!
Come and hear the change ideas that are being proposed by the Keeping the Faith Strategic Planning Committee for the Catholic Elementary Schools in the Diocese of Cleveland. Your feedback is important and will help keep our schools vibrant and strong for the future! We want to minimize exposure as we prioritize in-person learning at schools, so January meetings will be held virtually and will require pre-registration. NOTE: Previously scheduled in-person meetings have been postponed. For more information and to register for events, click HERE.
Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 3, 2
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:15 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
COVID-19 Volunteer Protocol: all recess volunteers are required to wear a mask when in the building.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 3, Grade 2
