February 24th Marks the Sorrowful Anniversary of the Invasion of Ukraine
Our Ukrainian Bilingual students prepared a video project. The song lyrics are powerful
We will never give up our native language
We will never give our native land
We will fight any conspiracies
We will fight and overcome everything that is evil
Let's sing a song for Ukraine
Let's sing a song for her will
Let's sing a song for Ukraine
Because help is needed - for my native land!
We will raise our flag again and again
Glory to our native Ukraine, Glory to our native land!
We will fight and overcome any treacheries
We will fight and overcome everything that is evil
Let's sing a song for Ukraine
Let's sing a song for her will
Let's sing a song for Ukraine
Because help is needed - for my native land!
Students created their own interpretations of verses.
Singing is done by the grade 5-8 Ukrainian students.
Video compiled by grade 8 student Misha Faryna.
THANK YOU to admin for braving the cold and raising the Ukrainian flag!
As we say in Ukrainian - Glory to Ukraine ( Slava Ukraini!)

Hawks Hockey Challenge
Last Friday, Feb 17, 2023, for the first time in 3 years, St. Theresa staff and Grade 8 students faced off in Hawks Hockey Challenge! The entire school watched as the two teams played a hard fought hockey game to raise funds for The Lurana Shelter and Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine. The game was organized and put together by the Sport For Life Teachers at St. Theresa, but it could not have happened without the support of all St. Theresa staff on the ice and in the stands. Grade 8 hockey players were required to get pledges to play, pucks were sold for “Chuck a Puck”, students were charged an optional entry fee, and we had a very successful concession that was organized by Lesia Pohoreski and her Grade 8 Leadership class. The grand total raised from The Hawks Hockey Challenge was an estimated… $4,250!
The Sport For Life teachers would like to sincerely thank all staff and students for their support in this whole school fundraiser.

Glenrose Parent Information Session Calendars - Family 2 Family, Transitions, Our Best Life
In January we start our Family 2 Family series with a session on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), followed by two new Family 2 Family sessions in February and March - Struggling with Diagnosis and Coping Strategies and then the NeuroRelational Framework respectively.
We continue to offer our Pediatric to Adult Transitions series. These four sessions aim to make this transition a gradual process instead of a stressful one as we provide guidance of the tasks and considerations to be made as your child transitions from youth to adulthood.
All Family 2 Family and Pediatric to Adult Transition sessions are free and open to all parents and family caregivers. Children do not need to have a diagnosis or a connection to the Glenrose for parents to attend.
The exception is the Our Best Life sessions, which are only for parents of children that have a terminal prognosis/diagnosis. Started at the request of a parent, this session is a safe space for parents to share and learn as they strive to make the best life for their child and family. A place to talk through the challenges and possibilities amidst all the appointments, the emotions and anticipatory grief that comes with having a child with a terminal prognosis. This session is not clinician led nor intended as a substitute for professional mental health care. It is hosted by the Glenrose Family Centered Care Coordinator who connects parents with resources and clinician support as needed after each session.
Parent Societies
Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
The St. Theresa Parent Advisory Council performs many vital functions for our school community, by helping to facilitate school wide student functions and providing valuable funding to our school via fundraising. Parents involved in the PAC learn about planning and development within the school and are part of the planning process. These roles make their involvement very important to the families, administration and teachers.

LIFE Framework club at St. Theresa
We use the Lived Inclusion For Everyone (LIFE) Framework as a guideline for the creation and operation of student groups and their approach to inclusion. The LIFE Framework allows for the exploration, within a Catholic context, of a variety of issues, including: bullying; sexual harassment; sexual orientation; gender identity; discrimination; justice; and respectful relationships and language.
Alberta legislation recognizes parents have both the right and responsibility to make informed decisions about the education of their children. Please accept this as general notice that students have organized a LIFE Framework club at St. Theresa.

Dear Parents:
Welcome to a new year of Catholic education and faith formation for your child!
Each year, in a Catholic school, your child will learn about many aspects of their Catholic faith— including learning about the seven sacraments. In our Archdiocese, preparing children for the celebration of their own sacraments always occurs in the parish, with the support of the school: • preparing for First Reconciliation, and then First Eucharist, can begin when a child is 7 years of age and in Grade 2 or older
• preparing for Confirmation can begin when a child is about 12 years of age and in Grade 6 or older • special preparation is also available for children of any age who are not yet baptized
Most children attending Catholic schools are ready to receive at the ages shown above, but there is no such thing as too late. Are you seeking for your child to celebrate a sacrament, such as Baptism, First Communion or Confirmation? Are you ready to help them live out their Baptismal promises? Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and Elk Island Catholic Schools are each involved in preparing your child for a Catholic sacrament along with you. It is a group effort, and everyone has a role:
• As a parent, the Church has always held that you are the primary teacher of the faith for your child. You teach them about God; set the example; talk about your own faith; and you bring them to Mass. • The place where the sacraments are celebrated and lived is the Catholic parish. We the people of God in the Church are each part of the Body of Christ. Being in relationship with the parish community (with all its challenges and blessings) is essential for your life of faith and that of your child. The preparation for, and celebration of, the sacraments happens in the parish church. • You must sign your child up for preparation at the parish. The school doesn’t do this part of the process for you. Catholic schools are a special place for children to learn more about Jesus Christ, to practice living in a community of faith, and to develop and deepen a relationship with Christ. We (Catholic parish and Catholic school) are eager to walk beside you and your children during this very special time.
Please call OLPH parish office 780-467-5470, send an email to sacraments@olph.ca or visit www.olph.ca/sacraments to get started or learn more.
As you prepare your child for their sacraments may this also be a special time for you - of deepening your own understanding and of growing in faith for the whole family!
Sincerely in Christ,
Rev. Jim Corrigan, Pastor
