A Note From Mrs. Waters
To celebrate and make the last weeks extra fun, we will be doing an ABC count down to the end of the year. It will begin on Wednesday, May 4, for the last 26 days of first grade. Attached is a calendar of each day's letter activity. Please look over it as some days your child will be bringing something from home or will need to dress up. A hard copy will go home on Sunday so that you can hang it up somewhere like the fridge.
On May 8, we will be having a writer's cafe. We would like to invite you, moms and dads, to come and hear a writing piece or two by your child. This will take place in our classroom at 8:50.
We will be beginning our last units of study next week in social studies, reading and writing. Please read the attached parent unit letters.
Reading
Students will read and reread, paying attention to what characters are thinking and feeling, and use smooth storytelling voices to bring out characters’ thoughts and feelings.
Writing
Students will be reviewing the writing process and work on having a strong introduction to their personal narratives.
Math
Students will work on numbers to 120.
Social Studies
Students will learn about some specialized jobs community members have.
School Announcements
Shukran Committee
The Shukran Committee will be placing large water bottles in the hallways during Student-Led Conferences next week. The money collected will fund our end-of-year dinner for all ASD workers (cleaners, bus drivers & monitors, cafeteria workers, guards, etc., etc...) This is our way to say thank-you for all of their hard work and dedication. Your support is greatly appreciated.
ASD Fine Arts Show
Starting May 1st, enjoy 19 days of beautiful student artwork. Random selections from PreK4-IB art are on display in the ES main corridor and the HS Fine Arts area so you may take a quick glance at what’s happening in the art rooms at ASD. The students are very proud of the work they have created and we hope you take a moment to explore our galleries. Attached is a flyer.
Lower Elementary Math Parent Drop-in
Our Math Coordinator, Mrs. Carol Little will be holding a Lower Elementary parent drop in / office hour every Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:00pm. Mrs. Little will be available at this time every week to assist parents who need further information about our Math program or who would like help / suggestions with how to support their children at home. It will be held in Ms. Mindy Martin’s office.
