NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FROM PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has revised the immunization requirements for students effective the 2017-2018 school year.
As of August 2017, a parent must have all immunizations completed within the first 5 days of school.
Please click here for further details.
If the student is in the middle of a series and it is too soon for the next dose, the parents must provide the school nurse with a plan for immunizations (signed by a health care provider) within the first 5 days. If the student has incomplete immunizations and no medical plan, the student will be excluded from school.
You may check your child’s school immunization record by logging onto the parent portal through the district website at www.cbsd.org or by consulting with your child’s physician.

ESL Students Helping at Doyle
CB West ESL students assisted kindergartners at Doyle while they completed their barnyard animal projects.
CB West Students Partner with Pine Run Lakeview
Some CB West chemistry students took time out of their afternoon on Tuesday, May 30 to visit Pine Run Lakeview to share some of their science research as well as conduct some science demonstrations and hands-on experiments with the residents. The event was coordinated by CB West chemistry teacher, Brian Hensel and Bill Rissinger, a Lakeview resident and retired Central Bucks school teacher.
Sophomores Cassidy Pitts and Jacqueline Mautz performed a couple of chemistry demonstrations and led some hands-on experiments with several of the residents. In between they introduced themselves one-by-one to the residents in attendance. Also, Danielle Hensel shared some of the cancer research she conducted at Fox Chase Cancer Center this past winter and answered several questions from a curious group of seniors. The residents wanted to know more about the students, and the students were more than happy to oblige by sharing some of the activities they do at CB West beyond the classroom.
CB West Students Win Theater Competition
Congratulations to Seniors Mercedes Wentworth-Nice, Liz Vranken, Colette Yeager, and Maggie Young, and Juniors Rileigh Thompson, Mary Kate Prisco, Olivia Morgan, and Kate Terrill for their participation in the first annual Bucks County Shakespeare Festival. The girls performed the play within a play from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” won the Shakespearean insult contest and the Rock, Paper, Scissors Competition, and participated in acting workshops with the Arden Theater Company.
CB West International Day
Students taking Chinese participated in West’s Spring International Day.
CB West Students Partner with the Ronald McDonald House
The students from Central Bucks helped to honor Hailey Bekos, a current Junior at CB West, by making and serving food at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. Four years ago, Hailey’s family spent 254 days at the Ronald McDonald House as she battled a rare disease. Today, she and her family (with the help of a few dozen CB friends) were able to return the favor and cook for families in need. It was a great to see Hailey doing so well and her peers rallying to help support a worthy cause!
CB West Students Participate in Business Simulation
Each year, twenty students from the three Central Bucks High schools are invited to participate in a two-day business simulation program run by Bob Byers and Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. Our CB West students are mixed into groups and are challenged to market a product for a manufacturing company while working with influential business leaders from various community businesses. Students, with the help of their “mentors”, make group decisions which are run through a simulation program that evaluates, scores and ranks each business’s decisions based on market data and various analytic and competitive factors. It was great to see all the students engaged and anxious to learn how their decisions affected their company and rankings within the market. These mentors also took time during the day to speak with students about their real-life experiences in the business world and share tips on how to become successful members of a competitive team.
This two-day experience was an incredible opportunity for our students. We feel fortunate to have an outstanding partner in the Central Bucks Chamber and thank all the mentors for giving their valuable time to create a meaningful life-experience for our students. The CB West Business Department is so very proud of all our students and we look forward to next year’s simulation.
(A special thanks to Jung Wi of Allure West Studios for providing photos of the day.)
