A Message From Dr. Flowers- Principal
Dear Families:
It has been a great start to the school year! It was wonderful to see many of you at Open House on Tuesday evening. We had a great turnout and hope you enjoyed the community groups that attended.
The school year is off to a good start! Students have been excited to be here and enjoyed seeing friends and staff. Today, we had a back to school assembly for the entire school. We introduced staff and school expectations. We recognized classes who wore the most spirit wear and had a prize drawing for students who earned red PBIS tickets.
Just a couple of reminders for car riders. If your child is a car rider please do not let them out of the car until 8:45. There is no supervision until that time. Parents should not get out of the car when dropping off their child; it slows down the line.
Next week we look forward to welcoming our kindergarten students. Please be patient as parents and students learn the procedures for arrival and dismissal.
Thanks,
Barb Flowers

COUNSELORS CORNER
Hello Brimfield Families!
I like to take the beginning of the year to remind our families of my role as your child’s school counselor! My responsibility as a school counselor is to provide services to all students. My goal is to help students in becoming more successful learners through building self-esteem, self-awareness, decision-making skills, social skills, and academic excellence. My goal is to motivate students to develop a sense of personal pride, as well as a desire to learn and grow in a positive direction.
As part of our school counseling program, I work with students either individually, or in small groups (as the need arises) through teacher/staff concerns, or if you, as a parent, have concerns you would like to have addressed or need some guidance on. Students can be referred by a parent, teacher or staff. I will meet with a student once, then a consent form will be sent home or a phone call home for parental/guardian permission to continue working with the student. I will also refer students to outside agencies, such as Children’s Advantage if I believe they would benefit from long term counseling. I always discuss this with parents before I make a referral.
Students can be referred to me for many different reasons. Elementary-aged children are often affected by the same life challenges as adults; they just manifest in different ways. Students can struggle with anxiety and depression. Sometimes, students need help making friends; adjusting to a new classroom setting; with conflict resolution; or help with organizational skills. They may also need help adjusting to family situations, such as separation/divorce, birth of a new sibling, or death of a loved one. These issues can affect a child’s performance and behaviors at school…both in the classroom, and in social settings. Please reach out and let me know how I can be helping you and your student whatever the situation.

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
