C. F. Holliday Elementary
Dream, Think, Do! Success is up to you!
New School Times in January
The school hours will change for C. F. Holliday students after winter break. Beginning January 4, school will begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. for Holliday students. Early dismissal on Thursdays will be at 1:30 p.m.
Transportation Changes to come in January
Thanks to the passage of our November 8th levy, transportation changes will be made effective January 4. This will affect bus service for C. F. Holliday. Please look for the postcards that will be mailed to parents in December with updated bus stop information, as well as pick-up and drop-off times.
Holliday's Food Drive
C. F. Holliday's food drive will begin Monday, November 28th and will run through Friday, December 16th. Our goal is to have every homeroom bring in 100 items. This would potentially allow us to donate around 2,000 food items to our local community. This drive allows students to engage in Asset #27, Equality and Social Justice, in which we are placing a high value on promoting equality and reducing hunger and poverty in our community. Thank you for helping our students learn the valuable lesson of helping others.

Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to help in our "Holliday" Shop during the week of December 12th -16th. Please look for a volunteer flyer to be coming home when we return from break. Feel free to contact Tara Messer (tmesser@wcsd.k12.oh.us) or Marissa Yeakley (myeakely@wcsd.k12.oh.us) if you might be able to volunteer for a shift or two during the school day that week. Our shop's success depends on you. While this is a PTO sponsored event, the PTO makes very little profit. It provides a service for our students so that they can feel that they contributed to making someone's holiday a little brighter by showing their love and appreciation. Thank you for your support and your time.
School Board Meeting presentation
A big shout out and thank you to third graders Kameron Eubanks, Aubrielle Blackburn, Caylah Lander, and Alex Gilliam for presenting to our school board on Wednesday. They presented several ways students use technology in class.
Holliday Happenings
Time for pie!
1st and 2nd grade students in Mrs. Ziegler's class got the chance to sample a traditional Thanksgiving food...pumpkin pie! Yum!
Squanto Snacks
1st graders learned about how the Wampanoag tribe taught the pilgrims to grow corn using fish as the fertilizer for the soil. They celebrated this lesson with a very fitting snack...goldfish and Oreos (soil).
Word Wizards
2nd grade students in Mrs. Yeakley's reading group used the letters from the word Thanksgiving to make 20 other words!
A Thankful Group
Miss Jordan's 3rd grade reading group wrote paper bag turkey books about the things that they are thankful for at home and at school, as well as the talents that they have.
Turkeys in Reading?!?!
4th grade students in Mrs. Tarziers' reading class showed their understanding of Main Idea and Details in a most creative way...turkeys!
A day at the theater
5th graders went to the Victoria Theatre this week. They saw the production "The Wright Brothers: Those Daring Men and Their Flying Machine". It was a great culminating event for their PBL.
