A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL HAUGE

Thanks for your patience as the weather has made the final weeks of second trimester a challenge. Please be aware that March 9th is now a school day and the last day of the trimester. The email Dr. Thein sent yesterday regarding the changes is below with the current schedule changes, as well as any needed if future inclement weather takes place.

SECONDARY FLEXIBLE CONFERENCES

Flexible Conferences are on March 13th, there is no school that day. Communication home at the Secondary Building will continue to be individual contacts to families regarding their students’ progress. If you would like to meet with a teacher at a specific time, please contact that teacher. This is a good time to check student grades in Skyward before the end of the trimester to encourage them to make any final improvements.

SCHOOL MAKE UP DAY ANNOUNCEMENT

ROCORI Students, Staff, and Community Members:

This week’s powerful winter storm disrupted the normal daily operations of ROCORI. The weather conditions forced the district to cancel in-person classes on Wednesday and Thursday. I realize cancelling in-person classes impacted your lives. I know learning and instruction produces the best results when students and teachers are together, but the safety and well-being of our students and staff members is our top priority when weather makes travel dangerous.

The State of Minnesota allows for a maximum of five (5) e-learning days a school district may use when in-person classes must be cancelled. Due to this year’s unusually significant storms, ROCORI has already used all five e-learning days. Therefore, to comply with State of Minnesota in-person instructional time requirements, we must add new days of in-person teaching and learning to the district calendar for the current school year.

As a result, we are asking the ROCORI school board to approve the following changes to the current 2022-2023 school year calendar:

  • March 9, 2023: All students and staff will report for a regular in-person school day. That is the end of the trimester.
  • March 10, 2023: This will be a Staff Professional Development Day. No students.

If additional in-person school days are lost:

  • If inclement weather occurs between March 6, 2023, and April 6, 2023, students will have an in-person school day on April 10, 2023.
  • If inclement weather occurs after April 7, 2023 and before the end of the current school year, make up in-person school days will be added to the end of the current school year.

I realize this uncertain calendar may create planning issues for some families and staff members and apologize for any disruption this may cause. Unfortunately, we must comply with State of Minnesota requirements and thank all of you for understanding.

Dr. John Thein
Superintendent
