Weekly Snapshot

Safety Reminder

Use of a wireless communication device is prohibited in a school zone unless the driver is using a hands-free device or the vehicle is stopped, according to Texas Transportation Code. Statewide, drivers face $200 tickets if caught using cell phones in school zones while the car is in motion.

Let's work together to keep our Ponderosa family safe by refraining from talking and texting while in a school zone. Safety is everyone's responsibility!

COVID-19 Reminders

Parents, if you or your student are ill, stay home. Please always check your child’s health before sending them to school, and if they show any signs of illness, such as a cough, sore throat, runny nose or fever, please keep them home. Here are some additional reminders:

  • If your student has been potentially exposed to someone who is sick, please do not send them to school.

  • For the safety of our students and staff, if your student has been tested and is awaiting results, please consider keeping them home until their results come back negative.

  • If someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19, do not send your student to school.

Clothing Donations Needed

Parents, Nurse Keyes is requesting that you please donate any clean, gently used pants, shorts, and shirts to the school. We know that many of our students are outgrowing their clothes, so please consider dropping them off at school before donating them to Goodwill or Thrift stores.

These clothing items are used for students who have accidents and families of students who may just need a helping hand. Any size from 4 to 14 is appreciated.

Chromebook and Hotspots Collection

Spring ISD will be collecting all Chromebooks and hotspots at the end of the academic school year, including the device’s charger. All devices should be turned in to their campus no later than Thursday, May 26. More information on how to return devices will be provided by your campus soon.

In addition, students attending the Summer Bridge program will also be required to turn in devices by the due date, but will have access to Chromebooks at the campus they will attend.

Please note that the Technology Department will be auditing all student devices over the summer break. Any Chromebooks missing in the audit will be disabled, and any hotspots missing in the audit will have their cellular service disabled. Technology will partner with the Spring ISD Police Department in July 2022 to begin tracking down devices that have not been returned.

For additional information, please contact your student’s teacher or campus principal.

STAAR Testing Resources Available

As this year comes to a close, during the last week of April, students in Spring ISD will begin our annual STAAR testing. The STAAR test is an important assessment in that it provides valuable information on how your child is progressing for each tested grade level and subject.

This year’s STAAR tests are more important than ever so that your child’s school can best help your student with areas of growth and areas of mastery. The data will also be used to ensure our curriculum and teaching practices are aligned to what our students need to be successful this coming year and beyond.

If you would like to work with your child at home on the mastery of skills before the test, your child can access some great instructional materials from their my.springisd.org portal. We recommend the following resources:

  • ST Math (Math, K-5)

  • Amplify Reading (Reading, K-5)

  • Education Galaxy (Math, Science, Reading, K-5)

Transfer Application Window Opens April 4

Spring ISD Parent/Guardians:

If your student is seeking to attend a school in 2022-23 for which they are not zoned, the window to submit a transfer application is set to open on April 4 at www.springisd.org/transfers.

The district offers different transfer types depending on the situation. Regardless of transfer type, transportation will NOT be provided to students. More information on each of the transfer types is available at www.springisd.org/transfers.

Just a reminder, students attending the district’s schools of choice (Roberson Middle School, Spring Leadership Academy, Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, P-TECH at Dekaney High School, and Spring Early College Academy) are NOT considered transfer students since these schools do not have attendance boundaries. Students accepted into these programs receive transportation.

Should you have any questions about the online transfer application, please reach out to your student’s current principal.

Technology Help and Resources

Log into HAC to see your child's grades!

As we prepare to release progress reports and report cards this fall, we wanted to remind you of how to check your child’s grades on the Home Access Center.

To get started, log into the myspringisd portal and into HAC. Once there, you will find a "Grades" tab. When you click on "Grades", you will see where to locate your child’s progress report (IPR), report cards and more.

Remember, the username and password you use to log into the portal is the same username and password for logging into HAC. Also, parents should log in using their credentials, not their student’s.

Staying connected with your child’s academic progress is a great way to ensure your student’s success in school. See the attached handouts (Found under "Additional Resources") in English and Spanish for step-by-step directions.
