Howell Alum Sutton Smith Drafted By Pittsburgh Steelers

Congratulations to Howell alum Sutton Smith! On Saturday, Sutton was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sutton was a standout performer at Howell and went on to star at Northern Illinois University where he received All-American honors. The recent NIU grad will now take his talents to the NFL. Congratulations to Sutton on this major accomplishment and for representing Howell in such a positive way!

Varsity Golf Finishes 2nd At GAC Tournament

The Francis Howell golf program hosted the GAC Golf Tournament at Old Hickory Country Club this past week. The Varsity shot an impressive 326 and had all five golfers finish in the "Top 12." Overall, the Varsity program finished in 2nd place in the tournament and 2nd for season points. Howell golfers Cole Prager & Blake Derleth both made 2nd Team All-GAC based on their full season individual points. Congratulations to the Boys Golf team on a great regular season and good luck at Districts!

Howell Earns Highest Participation & Attachment Rate In FHSD History

It has been a record setting year for Howell in many activities, clubs and sports. This year Howell has earned the highest participation and attachment rate across its activities, clubs & sports in the history of Howell and the FHSD since the data point has been tracked. This year 74.7% of students are involved in an activity, club or sport at Howell. Not only did Howell programs have record participation but they also had record participation in multiple activities & sports where 61.3% of students were involved in two or more activities, clubs or sports which also marks an all time high.


Students at Howell are encouraged to get involved and participate in activities, clubs and sports because of the many benefits for students and our school community. This year the 1329 students involved with an activity, club or sport held a cumaltive GPA of 3.6 and an attendance rate of over 97%.


Congratulations to all of our student-participants for their involvement, parents for their continued support and the 38% of our staff that sponsors an activity, club or sport at Howell. Howell is truly a great place to be and our activities, clubs and sports help to shape a great school culture and community.

Boys Tennis Finishes Second At GAC Tournament

Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team on their second place finish in the two day GAC South Tennis Tournament. The Vikings brought home a total of 15 medals from the conference event. Both Noah Schultz and Jaden Schultz brought home championships in singles. Below you can see our medalists from the tournament. Good luck to tennis as they finish up their regular season and compete in Districts.

Choir Turns In Outstanding Performances At State Competition

It is no secret that we have a very talented choir that puts in so much time and effort into their performances and representing Howell in such a positve way. This past week our Vikings traveled to the MSHSAA State Competiton and brought home several gold, silver and bronze performances. Below you can find the results from State. Band Has Strong Showing At State Competition

This past week our very talented band students traveled to compete in the MSHSAA State Competition at the University of Missouri. Our Vikings had many great performances and had six students earn gold, silver or bronze performances. Below you can find the results from the State competition. Mason Brock Sets School Record For Javelin

Congratulations to Mason Brock for setting the school record for the javelin! Mason earned his throw of 161-5 at the Kansas Relays last week that features the best track athletes from across the Midwest. Mason finished 5th in the javelin with his school record throw. Viking fans look forward to following Mason as he prepares for the District and State Meet!

Schark Named STL Today Athlete Of The Week

Congratulations to standout basketball and baseball player Matt Schark for being named the STL Today Athlete of the Week. After a dominant basketball season where he averaged over 17 points a game. Track Sets PR's & Season Bests At Kirkwood Invite

The weather may not have been great on Saturday for the track program but many of the performances by our Vikings were. In the toughest meet in the State of Missouri our track program competed and brought home several PR's and season best performances. Below you can see a brief recap of several of the great performances from Saturday.


Kirkwood Invite Highlights

  • The Girls 4x800 (C. Figgins, May, S. Russell, T. Russell) ran season best to place 5th and is now ranked 7th in the State
  • Nick Cimmarusti took 8th in the 3200m
  • CJ Banton placed third At Kirkwood with a new season best
  • Olivia Wansing took 7th in the Pole Vault, tying her season best
  • Chloe Figgins placed 8th at Kirkwood in the 1600m
  • Taylor Russell placed 7th in the 800m with a new PR
  • The Girls 4x400 (Williams, S. Russell, C. Figgins, T.Russell) placed 5th at Kirkwood with a new season best
  • Sarah Russom placed third in the 3200m
  • Freshman Zora Williams placed forth in her first ever open 400m

Choir Students To Further Education & Choir At College Level

This past week the choir program announced eight Class of 2019 seniors that will be furthering their education and participating in choir at the college level. These eight Vikings will be recognized at the May 10th Signing Day Ceremony that features the many students at Howell in activities such as band, cheer, choir, dance and theatre that will further their education and MSHSAA sponsored activity at the college level. Congratulations to these young men and women for taking their talents to the college level!

Will Dobert To Represent Howell At Missouri Boys State

Congratulations to Will Dobert who will represent Francis Howell High School at Missouri Boys State as he joins the best and the brightest high school juniors from across the state. During the week-long program, students will learn more about the individual success and leadership through doing, not just learning. Principles of democracy and an enhanced knowledge of Missouri State Government will be among the leadership topics covered on the University of Central Missouri campus June 15-22. At Howell, Will’s leadership is evident in Marching Band, Winter Drum Line, and NHS. Congratulations Will on your selection to this distinguished program!

Golf Takes Fourth At Capital City Invitational

The Varsity Golf team competed at the Capital City Invitational in Jefferson City this past week and finished tied for 4th in a very talented field of state level teams at the very tough Meadow Lake Acres Country Club. The 22 team field featured some of the top golfers in the state. Congratulations to our very own Cole Prager who finished tied for 11th overall.

C Team Soccer Moves To 7-1 On The Season

It has been a very impressive season for C Team Soccer as they continue to earn quality wins. Our Lady Vikings are currently 7-1 on the season and are preparing for the St. Joes Academy Tournament which features the best freshman teams in the area. Good luck to C Team Soccer as they get ready to finish up a great season!

It was a great day for our JV golfers at the GAC JV Tournament as our Vikings had 5 that finished in the top 7, including a sweep of the top 3 spots. Congratulations to Trent Friemel for earning the GAC Championship with an impressive 82. The future looks very bright for the Boys Golf program!

Howell Alum Todd Joerling Inducted Into GAC Hall of Fame

The GAC recently announced their 2019 inductees for the GAC Hall of Fame and our very own Todd Joerling is among the 2019 inductees. Todd was a standout football, basketball and baseball player at Howell during the early 80's and went on to play baseball at Missouri State University. After collge he went on to be one of the top softball players in world and was part of Team USA's Softball Team in 2009. Todd is a member of several hall of fame's including the National USA Softball Hall of Fame.


On Tuesday prior to the home baseball game Todd will be recognized and will throw out the first pitch of the game. Viking fans can enjoy free hotdogs, chips and drink prior to the game in celebration of Todd's accomplishment and recognition by the GAC. Congratulations to Todd Joerling on being inducted into the GAC Hall of Fame!

The Activities Office has received a new shipment of Nike Howell apparel. The new apparel includes t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, hoodies and polo's! The summer, fall, winter, and spring dead periods and starting dates for MSHSAA sponsored activities has been released for the 2019-20 school year. These dates can be found below. We hope that this information helps all Vikings and their families coordinate and prepare for the summer and sports seasons ahead during the 2019-20 school year.
