August 9, 2023

Big picture

It's Almost Here!

The official start to the 2023-2024 school year is fast approaching! The first day will be on August 23rd for all students. Please note the information below:

*Doors Open: 7:25

*Students must be here by 7:47- arriving earlier is recommended

*Freshmen report to the auditorium.

*Grades 10-12 report to their advisory.

*Dismissal is at 2:41. We will start dismissing 9th grade parent pick-up the first week at 2:30

Thank you for your patience!

Thank you for your patience while our phone lines and email were down. The outage was caused by a wreck last week and the fiber lines that run from the 15th street to the high school were damaged. The timeline for fixing the pole was out of our control and we recognize that this caused an inconvenience for our families.

Teacher Change

As you may be aware, Mrs. Pickering, an English teacher here at the school is recovering from a medical event that happened this summer. Mrs. Carolyn McSween will be our longterm substitute for the first semester and will be the instructor for AP English and Literature and English 1. Mrs. McSween has subbed throughout the District and is very familiar with LAHS. We are grateful for her assistance during this time and send our thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Pickering for a full recovery.

Seniors

As you are preparing to apply to schools, there are two useful web pages . The links are listed below. One of the pages has the forms you can use to request transcripts and request a counselor recommendation. After you apply to a school, submit the transcript request to Mrs. Aikey in the Guidance Office. If you need a school counselor recommendation, please fill out the School Counselor Recommendation Form and submit it electronically through the link.

The other webpage gives directions on applying with the Common Application and linking that information to Naviance.

FAFSA Delayed: Federal Student Aid (FSA) has announced the 2024-25 FAFSA will not be released until December 2023.

Schedule Change Form

If you have a schedule change request, please fill out this form. Priority will be given to seniors for graduation requirements and for other students who are missing core classes. Students who do not have 7 credits will be added next and then other requests will be considered. Students must carry a full course-load of 7 credits. (PE counts as .25 each)

We are in the process of balancing sections. Your final schedule may have different times, but the classes themselves shouldn't change.

Blank spaces are study halls. Block 9 will be advisory. Block 10 is for any special programs.

Courses will not be changed out of a preference for a different time or teacher or because you wish to change courses from your original requests. If you did not get a course, it is likely because of a conflict of meeting times, the course is full, and/or prerequisites were not met.

The following class are currently full.

Sustainability: Farm to Table

Baking and Pastry

Photojournalism I and II

Painting

SUN Students

A reminder that the first school day for SUN is August 16th. The Cosmetology program has already started but all other students should report to SUN on the 16th. Transportation is provided from Lewisburg Area High School. To transport you to SUN, the school bus will depart from the LAHS at 7:40 AM prompt. The bus will be parked near the end of the bus platform. It is wise to show up a few minutes early. You are also permitted to transport yourself in your own vehicle.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up

Below is a map showing the loops for drop-off and pick-up. Please use the lefthand loop shown in purple. Please do not park in the parking lot or wait between rows during this time. We have student drivers crossing over to get to their own vehicle and this creates a dangerous situation for them.

Busing

Students' bus schedules are listed in PowerSchool. You will see the bus number, location of bus stop, and pick-up/drop-off times. These may be updated between now and the start of school. Please give extra time at the beginning of the year as the drivers learn their new routes.

Breakfast and Lunch

We are pleased to announce that we are able to once again provide free breakfasts for our students. You can view school menus and see lunch prices here. In addition to the lunch items listed, there is also a pizza station, grill station with a variety of hot sandwiches, deli station with yogurt and sandwiches, and a fantastic salad bar.

Graduation

Graduation is set for June 4, 2024 at Sojka Pavilion at Bucknell. We will send additional information as the date gets closer. Be on the lookout this fall for information from Jostens to order caps and gowns.
