Wellness Night was a great success last month!

Students and BME families gathered to experience fun and challenging physical activities, as well as, engage in informative health/wellness stations. Thanks to all of our families and teachers for making another Wellness Night an incredibly special event!

Since Spring Break, students have been working on “Minute to Win It” challenges in Wellness class. These challenges are great ways to improve “fine motor skills”. We have learned about having “grit” and “determination”, and how failing at these challenges can actually lead to success later!

April 23, 2019, from 7:00-8:30PM

@ Zionsville Community High School Performing Arts Center

This is the first in a series of community gatherings with two brief (15 minutes each) keynote talks followed by a panel discussion on matters of racism, anti-Semitism, ostracism, and more. We are pleased to be able to host the first in this series that we expect to move to Zionsville and Whitestown Town Halls, and elsewhere. Initial planning was an outgrowth of the Zionsville Area Ministerial Association in conjunction with the Zionsville Community Schools and the Town of Zionsville.

Admission will be free, but tickets are required and will be made available when the program speakers are confirmed.

(Free childcare for threes and above who are potty-trained

will be announced on the ticket website.)

Walkers and Bike Riders

We have resumed the crossing guard support at our crosswalk every morning at 7:45 AM & afternoon (at dismissal),

  • Students (and parents) should meet at the crosswalk and wait until directed to cross the street.
  • Walkers and bike riders must be accompanied by an adult when crossing Main Street. (Please use the traffic signal to assist with safety.)

  • Crossing guards (Mr. Radivan & Mrs. Benson) will not be at the crosswalk on inclement weather days.

As stated in our handbook:

Students who walk to school are expected to use crosswalks and stay on the sidewalks. Students who ride to school on bikes or scooters are expected to wear helmets while riding. This includes going to or from school and any school related activities. Parents who accompany their children on bikes to school are also encouraged to wear helmets. The safety and well being of our school community is a top priority. The school accepts no responsibility if these items are lost, stolen or damaged and is not responsible for investigating the loss or damage of these items. The student and parent accept full responsibility for these items.

Medication Pick-Up in the Health Clinic

A quick reminder, ALL medication that is in the health clinic must be picked up by May 28th. The clinic is open on school days from 7:30am-3:30pm

For safety of our students, all medication must be transported to and from school by an adult (unless other arrangements have been made with the Nurse). Any medication that is left in the clinic will be discarded by St. Vincent Hospital.

Please contact me in the clinic with any questions or concerns.

Zionsville Passing Flag Football League: Grades 2nd-6th

Zionsville Passing Flag Football League is designed to give student athletes an opportunity to participate in football without pads and contact. High School/Middle School coaches will be running the practices and games with assistance from ZYFL youth league coaches. We will focus on developing the skills needed to execute and defend the passing game. All participants will have an opportunity to run routes, catch footballs, and defend receivers in practice and games. There is no blocking or tackling involved in the league.

Teams will consist of 5 v 5 on a condensed field, and quarterbacks will be selected through an evaluation process. The teams will be grouped by grade level (possibly combining grades 2/3, and 4/5/6 depending on the number of signups).

Jerseys will be provided with signups as well as mouthpieces and flags. Football or soccer cleats are recommended but no metal baseball spikes.

Thursdays @ 6:15pm - 7:30pm

Important-Updated Immunization Requirements for 2019-2020

The Indiana State Department of Health school immunization requirements for 2019-2020 have been updated. Click here to view these new requirements as they have recently changed. Students who do not have the Hepatitis A series may need to get the first dose as soon as possible as there is a minimum interval of six calendar months between the first and second doses. Religious and medical objections to the immunization requirements must be updated and signed each school year. Please feel free to send updated immunization records to the health clinic as you receive them. Contact the school nurse or your physician’s office with any questions.

Texts from SchoolMessenger

From time to time Boone Meadow uses SchoolMessenger to send a text to all of the families. If you haven't been receiving texts from us, you may need to opt-in by sending YES to the SchoolMessenger short code of 68453. Contact Beth Kiel in the front office if you have any questions!

Attention all parents/guardians! Have you ever thought about getting paid for the time you spend at our school? Becoming a substitute teacher would do just that for you! Think of it as a paid volunteer position. You still get the opportunity to control your schedule and locations you work but have the added benefit of a little extra pocket money! If you are interested in this opportunity you may apply directly on the ZCS website or simply click here! You may also contact the subcoordinator (subcoordinator@zcs.k12.in.us ) for more information.

Thank you!

Last Day of School is now May 28, 2019

Since we incurred our school closing on Thursday, November 15th, the last student day is now, Tuesday, May 28th.

Volunteers and Visitor Background Checks

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

  • Field Trip Chaperones
  • Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
  • Tutors
  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers
  • Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
  • Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
