Beamish Visit

On Wednesday, Year 1 enjoyed a visit to Beamish Museum as part of their big idea " Are all homes the same?" They explored homes from the past and enjoyed learning about many aspects of what home life used to be like, including carpet beating and bed making! They even experienced a school room from the past and hopefully they appreciate their own school life better now!

Year 2 Welcome Worship

It was lovely to welcome the Year 2 parents into school this week for Welcome Worship, where the theme was the Lord's Prayer. The children recited the prayer with actions and even managed to persuade the parents to join in.

Cathedral School in Concert!

Children in Years 5 and 6 are getting ready for performing at the Young Voices Concert at Sheffield Arena next Tuesday night. They will join up to 8,000 children singing in a mass choir. The children have been learning a range of songs from folk to pop in their music lessons in preparation for the concert. This week they made an eye catching banner so that parents who attend will be able to spot them in the crowd.

Where does our food go?

As part of their science studies, Year 4 have been looking at the human body and in particular the digestive system. The children learned a lot and had some fun too, as you can see Miss Calvert made the lesson very practical.

Don't forget to register your child with Coolmilk if you would like them to have a serving of milk each day. A letter was sent out last week and is available on our website, explaining all about the new scheme and actions required. If you have any queries on this, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the office staff.

Governor Update

The Governing Body continue in their role to challenge and support leaders in school to ensure that the children receive the very best education. This week, working with Miss Hardy, Governors met with children and staff and visited classrooms to monitor progress in Maths. They also met with Mrs McCormick, Head of English, to check that improvements in the teaching of English are being sustained.

The Governors want Ripon Cathedral School to be the best school in the region and for that reason Governors are always keen to hear the views of parents/carers.

Governors can be contacted:

1. Via school reception

2. By letter (addressed to the Chair of Governors) and sent to school

3. By email to

Snow and Ice

At last it seems we are experiencing some proper winter weather. By way of reminder, please click on this link for a copy of our Snow and Forced Closure Policy, detailing how we communicate with parents in the event of closure. Our priority is to keep school open at all times, but decisions always have to be taken on the grounds of safety. Where school is open, access paths into school will be gritted or cleared of snow, but please be aware that other areas including the playground and car park will not be gritted and so should not be accessed.
