Changes Brewing for the Home and School Facebook Page
We have created a new "Salford Hills Elementary Home and School" closed group! This means that not anyone can join, and will ensure our information, pictures, etc stay within our school community and not the general public. Please search for the page and request to join; one of our administrators will be happy to accept you!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/442258103156141/
We hope to be much more active with posts about school, activities, field trips, etc on the new group... On that note, we encourage everyone to send us any pictures of events at or sponsored by school or home and school so we can post them.
The old page will be phased out and deleted early in 2020.

Math Skills in Room 52
To make beautiful snowflakes to decorate our room, we learned about isosceles right triangles, the hypotenuse, parallel lines, symmetry, and fractions. This knowledge helped while we assembled the 6 sections of these snowflakes. They certainly are pretty, but they definitely took some hard work, concentration, and cooperation!
Then we extended our understanding of two-coordinate grids. Students used all four quadrants to plot and label points in order to draw creative winter-themed pictures.
It's beginning to look a lot like winter in room 52!

The Healthy Benefits of Kindness
5 Scientifically Proven ways Intentional Kindness will Benefit you
- Perpetually kind people have 23% less cortisol, which is the stress hormone! So more kindness equals less stress
- A study showed that people who performed acts of kindness actually saw improvement in their anxiety and depression
- When you’re kind, it produces endorphins which is the brain’s natural painkiller!
- Kindness increases serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that calms you down and makes you happy!
- Acts of kindness produce oxytocin. Oxytocin not only lowers blood pressure, but can actually boost your self-esteem and help you feel less anxious or shy in social settings.

MySchoolBucks/Food Service Account Balances
If you receive an e-mail notification today from MySchoolBucks.com concerning your child’s meal account, please be advised that your account is not being charged. This is to notify you that a payment that was previously made through the MySchoolBucks.com Web site has now been applied to your child’s meal account.
There were some payments that were received through MySchoolBucks.com, our online payment processing service, that were not applied to student accounts as a result of the network disruption experienced in September. We have been working with MySchoolBucks.com to make sure all payments have been credited to student accounts.
Please feel free to contact Jane L. Natali at jnatali@soudertonsd.org if you have any questions concerning your child’s meal account.

Indian Valley Education Foundation's Holiday Giving Campaign 2019
Online donations can be made now through December 31, 2019 at https://indianvalleyeducationfoundatio.givingfuel.com/ivef-holiday-giving-campaign.
With the holidays quickly approaching, now is the time to consider making a donation to the Indian Valley Education Foundation (IVEF) in honor of a special Souderton Area School District teacher or staff member. Simplify your holiday shopping by making an online donation that will truly have an impact. All donations are used to provide additional resources and learning opportunities in the Souderton Area School District schools. Donations of all sizes are making a tremendous difference in our classrooms.
Our goal to raise $5,000 this holiday season! This is only possible with your support. Keep in mind that the Indian Valley Education Foundation is an approved 501(c)(3) organization, so your donation is tax deductible. Additionally, the IVEF is eligible for many corporate match programs, which means you can double your contribution! Please help us reach our goal. In doing so, you are helping our schools and our students succeed!
For more information about how IVEF supports traditional public education in the Souderton School District, please visit: www.IndianValleyEF.org
