Celebrating our Earth: A Gift from God
"Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
-Genesis 1: 26-28
Thursday, April 22 marked the 31st celebration of Earth Day, an effort initiated to increase awareness about environmental issues. As Catholics, we are grateful and appreciate that God has created the Earth ideally and beautifully. Described in the Bible passage above, we as mankind have the responsibility to care for the Earth that God has created for us.
On this Earth Day and everyday, we give glory and honor to the Creator by following His words and His ways. God created the world and its natural resources. When we care for the Earth, this is our way to show our love and appreciation to God.
Mass Readings for Sunday, April 25: Fourth Sunday of Easter
In this weekend's Gospel Reading, Jesus describes how He is the Good Shepherd and how we can trust Him.
Christ described Himself as the Good Shepherd, willing to protect us and ultimately lay down His life for us. Often times, people or other ideas attempt to lead us in wrong ways or lie to us about what is most important. Jesus is the only one we should put our trust into and listen to. We can believe and understand the truth of what Jesus promised, because He already accomplished our salvation through His death and resurrection.
