A Story That'll Get Your Blood Pumping
Today a new book written by Dr. William Harvey was published. The book "Exercitato Anatomica de Motu Cordis et Sanguinis in Animalibus", or "de Motu Cordis", establishes the circulation of blood through the body. Harvey has combined observations, experiments, measurements and hypotheses in this book. It argues that blood is pumped around the body in something that is refereed to as "double circulation." The book has many other interesting observations that you can only find in, "de Motu Cordis."
Gun Ship Sinks on Maiden Voyage
Date: August 10, 1628
The Vasa a 64 gun ship has sunk just outside of Stockholm Harbor in Sweden. The ship was built on the orders of the King of Sweden Gustavus Adolphus as apart of a military expansion. The ship only went a couple hundred yards on its first voyage and was over turned by a strong gust of wind. It soon sank taking 30 of its passengers with it.
First Duke of Buckingham Assassinated
Date: August 23, 1628
George Villiers, the first Duke of Buckingham has been assassinated. The Duke was stabbed to death by John Felton, an army officer in The Duke's latest campaign. The supposed motive was the Duke not giving Felton a promotion. Villiers was buried in Westminster Abbey.
New Ruler in Agra
Date: January 25, 1628
In the city of Agra within the Mughal Empire, there has been crowned a new ruler. Prince Shah Jahan son of Emperor Jahangir has been chosen to be the successor of his father after the emperor's recent death last year.
