Championship level Chess Club
Mr. Beach goes above and beyond to invest in our GT students. He is a Destination Imagination team leader. He sponsors a Klein Innovation Challenge team, co-sponsors our Student Council, and leads the Strack Chess Team.
Last weekend, our chess team competed in a Houston Area Scholastic Chess Tournament hosted in Klein ISD at Ulrich Intermediate. This tournament was an official United States Chess Federation (USCF) run event. Strack took 5 students, 4 of whom were GT kids. There were over 20 teams representing middles schools from all over the Houston Area, Strack walked away with third place overall. Individual winners included Jadon Parker (4th place) and Timothy Finnen (2nd place) in their respective sections.
The Strack Chess Club is a very active organization at our camps. Just last week they invested in future club members at Benfer Elementary as part of our GT community collaboration. In addition, every Friday evening they venture further out into our community and participate in a local chess club called Friday Knights. Every Friday a member of our chess team has placed 1st at the Friday Knights USCF weekly tournament.
If your child is interested in Chess the Strack Chess team is the place to be. They meet every Wednesday before or after school.
