Staff Spotlight!

This week we are welcoming our awesome P.E. teacher, Mrs. Ziobro, back from her maternity leave! The students missed her so much while she was away. Mrs. Ziobro is returning after being on maternity leave after having beautiful baby Faye! We are so lucky to have Mrs. Ziobro here at Kolmar. She is always making sure the students are staying healthy and safe, and that they are always having fun. She is constantly finding new and exciting activities for the students. She also always encourages them to be the best they can be in and outside of P.E. class. You can often even find her participating in the activities students are doing in recess and P.E.! Thank you for everything you do and all the fun you bring to our school, Mrs. Ziobro!

Classroom Happenings!

Ms. Sullivan's 4th and 5th graders did not let winter break slow them down! They jumped right back into work and have a lot going on! In Math they are practicing using arrays for multiplication. They have also been working on making inferences in Reading and are doing a really great job! Since break, they have been finishing up their non-fiction writing unit.

In Science the 5th graders are focusing on patterns in the Earth and Sky and the 4th graders are learning about animal habitats. They are all learning about the American Revolution in Social Studies. Keep up the awesome work, Ms. Sullivan's class!

PTA Announcements: BINGO Night is postponed

BINGO night has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for a later date! The new date will be announced in the coming weeks. If you already had a reservation- it will be saved and still be there when the new date is chosen! Sorry for any inconvenience!

NWEA MAP Assessment

Over the next three weeks, Kolmar students will take the NWEA MAP assessments for reading and math. The assessments are computer-based and take approximately an hour to complete. The MAP is administered three times per year (Fall, Winter, Spring) and is used to measure growth in reading and math. Assessment questions vary depending on the students’ previous responses. Questions that are answered correctly will lead to more difficult questions while questions answered incorrectly will lead to less difficult questions. The adaptive nature of the assessment enables us to have a more individualized understanding of a student's skills in each area. Score reports will be posted in Skyward in February.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey

Students and teachers across Illinois now have the opportunity to participate in the ninth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. Additionally, your 4th-8th grade student will be asked about their experiences in school to help give school leaders critical student input and help develop future school improvement plans. If you would like to view the student survey questions or opt-out your student please complete the form found at: d123.org/five. You and your student's identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and anonymous. To get started with the survey head to d123.org/five.
