Chatterpix Kids
This is a FREE app which allows students to take pictures with camera or from the photo roll and record their voice to make it talk. Simple steps make it easy for kids to use: grab a photo, draw a line for a mouth, and record! 2nd graders have been using this app with Mrs. Posey for historical figures. 3rd grade ELL students used the app with Mrs. Percevecz and myself to personify a rock or mineral. See below for the example one of our students created.

The Literacy Shed
This one is for all you visual learners out there. The Literacy Shed has tons of visual resources related to literacy. The goal is to use these visuals as stand alone literacy lessons or accompaniments to lessons you've already designed. Most resources are geared toward elementary students, but teachers should always preview content to determine if it's appropriate for their students. The resources also come with teaching tips. Are you learning about Also check out The Mathematics Shed.
HSI: Historical Scene Investigations
HSI is a site partnered with the College of William and Mary. They put a CSI spin on historical events and students must follow clues to crack the case. Each case has four stages:
- Becoming a Detective
- Investigating the Evidence
- Searching for Clues
- Cracking the Case
Some of these cases may be too advanced for elementary students, but preview a couple of cases and then figure out how you can create your own HSI case for your social studies standards.
