FAQ's

Where do I get registration information for my student?

Please see the posts below for your student's current grade level. Each post outlines the courses they will take and what they need to sign up for.


When will students register for classes?

Students currently in grades 6-8....

  • February 21 - Registration opens.
  • February 21-24 - Our counseling team will be visiting classrooms to start the registration process. Students will be directed to an online link to sign up for classes during these meetings.
  • February 24 - Registration closes.
Students currently in grade 5....
  • All 5th grade students can register right now. Please see the Directions for Current 5th Graders post below. Use the 6th Grade Registration Form link to select classes.
  • The registration window closes on March 3.


How do students register for classes?

Students currently in grades 6-8....

  • During the registration meetings between February 21-24, students will be directed to the Home Access Center (HAC) application in Clever. They will need to complete this by February 24.

Students currently in grade 5....

  • Please see the Directions for Current 5th Graders post below. Use the 6th Grade Registration Form link to select classes.


What if I have questions or need assistance?

The Edgemont staff will host two virtual parent meetings to assist with registration issues and concerns:

Families and students can also view the course of study for both the junior high and high school levels if questions arise.

GRADE LEVEL REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Directions for Current 8th Graders

Welcome to High School for 2023-24!


At the start of the 9th grade year, your student will begin accumulating credits toward a high school diploma. In total, they will need 24 credits to graduate.


At Edgemont, 9th grade students will automatically be enrolled in the following courses:

  • 1 credit in Math (to be determined based on previous math course)
  • .5 credit in Family Health (see counselor if current program of study requires a waiver)


Students will make choices in these areas:

  • 1 credit in Science - Physical Science 9 - OR - Pre-AP Biology
  • 1 credit in English - English 9 or Pre-AP English 9
  • 1 credit in Social Studies - Modern World Studies 9 - OR - AP Human Geography *
  • 1 year-long course + 1 semester course - OR - 3 semester electives


* Students who select AP Human Geography will be required to take the AP exam in the spring. Current cost is approximately $120. Some financial assistance is available.


Elective options for 9th graders:

  • AVID
  • Band
  • Orchestra
  • Choir
  • ASL (at PHS)*
  • French (at PHS)*
  • Japanese (at PHS)*
  • Spanish I
  • Spanish II (at PHS)*

* Note: Courses at PHS will take place during 6th period. This will extend the school day until approximately 2:45 pm.

Directions for Current 7th Graders

Welcome to 8th Grade for 2023-24!


At Edgemont, 8th grade students will automatically be enrolled in the following courses:

  • Math (to be determined based on previous math course)
  • English
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Fitness (semester)
  • Health (semester)


Students will make choices in these areas:

  • 1 year-long course (FINE ART or ELECTIVE) - OR - 2 semester ELECTIVES
  • 1 semester must include FINE ART


FINE ART options for 8th graders:

Year Long

  • Band
  • Orchestra
  • Choir

Semester Long

  • Art
  • Ceramics
  • Drama
  • Introduction to Design Technology
  • Introduction to Industrial Art


ELECTIVE Options for 8th Grade:

Year Long *

  • Spanish I
  • AVID

Semester Long

  • Yearbook
  • Introduction to STEM
  • Introduction to Culinary Science


Students enrolled in Spanish I and Pre-AP Algebra I during the 8th grade year will qualify for high school credit.


* Music students who choose Spanish I or AVID as an elective will need to have a waiver for Fitness and Health.

Directions for Current 6th Graders

Welcome to 7th Grade for 2023-24!


At Edgemont, 7th grade students will automatically be enrolled in the following courses:

  • Math (to be determined based on previous Math course)
  • English
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Fitness/Health 7 (semester)
  • MOS (Microsoft Office)


Students will select:

  • 1 semester FINE ART + 2 semester ELECTIVES - OR -
  • 1 year FINE ART + 1 semester ELECTIVE


FINE ART options for 7th graders:

Year Long

  • Band
  • Orchestra
  • Choir

Semester Long

  • Art
  • Drama
  • Introduction to Design Technology
  • Introduction to Industrial Art


ELECTIVE Options for 7th Grade:

  • Speech/Drama
  • Yearbook
  • Introduction to STEM
  • Introduction to Culinary Science

Directions for Current 5th Graders

Welcome to Edgemont Junior High for 2023-24!


Students leaving Mt. View and Northwood get a unique opportunity by attending Edgemont for 6th grade. This means that they get an experience like no other 6th grader in the Puyallup School District.


At Edgemont, 6th grade students will automatically be enrolled in the following courses:

  • Math (to be determined based on previous math course)
  • English
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Skills For Learning


Families will make a choice from this list:

  • Orchestra
  • 6th Grade Band (for returning band members)
  • Beginning Band (new to band; mixed grade levels)
  • General Music/Physical Education
  • Choir (mixed grade levels)
