Mrs. Wagner's Class

What's New?

What a success these past few months have been! In Writer’s Workshop we have completed our personal narratives. Students learned how to edit their writing and publish their final stories. We had our writing celebration with the other fifth grade classes this week. You can find the video below!

In Reader’s Workshop, students have been working on cause and effect relationships, making inferences, complex vocabulary, questioning, visualizing, and using graphic features to understand the text. We have read many fiction and non-fiction selections. Students have also begun working in centers. During this time, they work on Vocabulary Readers, summarizing their independent reading, and applying the weekly skill to their stories. I will be choosing one summary from each student that will be turned into an iMovie trailer!

In Science, we continue to work on our Mixtures and Solutions Unit. Students have learned how to separate mixtures and solutions using several different methods. Yesterday, we observed crystals under a hand lens. It has been an engaging unit.

In Math, students have been learning how to measure and identify angles and polygons. They have mastering protractors and geometry templates, too. Today we completed the unit 3 assessment. We will be working on partial-quotient division and finding distances on a map in the upcoming weeks.

In Social Studies, we are currently studying the Mayans, Aztecs, Anasazi, and Mound Builders. We will be creating iMovies in the next few weeks after doing research on each civilization.

I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
