6.EEI.B.6/7/8 Combined: MLS Code: 6.EEI.B.6 Write and solve equations using variables to represent quantities, and understand the meaning of the variable in the context of the situation. 6.EEI.B.7 Solve one-step linear equations in one variable involving non-negative rational numbers.Standard: 6.EEI.B.8
Recognize that inequalities may have infinitely many solutions by graphing and simplifying inequalities.
Our learning target for this week is: I can create and evaluate expressions involving variables and whole number exponents.
Important terminology for this unit: Like terms, perfect square, numerical expression, powers, term, base, associative property, algebra, algebraic expression, variable, evaluate, factor the expression, exponent, identity property, commutative property, defining the variable, equivalent expressions, distributive property, constant, commutative property, coefficient

Science
This week: Your student will start to learn about fossils and geological dating!
Our learning target for this week is:
- 6-8.ESS1.C.1: Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence from rock strata for how geologic time scale is used to organize Earth’s history.
Our essential learning targets for the quarter are:
- 6-8.ESS2.A.1: Develop and use a model to illustrate that energy from Earth’s interior drives convection which cycles Earth’s crust leading to melting, crystallization, weathering, and deformation of large rock formations, including generation of ocean floor at ridges, submergence of ocean sea floor at trenches, mountain building and active volcanic chains.
- 6-8.ESS1.C.1: Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence from rock strata for how geologic time scale is used to organize Earth’s history.
- 6-8.ESS2.B.1: Analyze and interpret data on the distribution of fossils and rocks, continental shapes, and seafloor structures to provide evidence of the past plate motions.
- 6-8.ESS2.A.2: Construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience processes have changed Earth's surface at varying time and spatial scales.
Important terminology for this unit: Sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic, melting, cooling, weathering, erosion, deposition, compaction, cementation, magma, lava
Social Studies
Tutoring After School will be offered on Tuesdays by Mrs. Windmann, and Thursdays by Mr. Hoskins for any Social Studies student who needs help with their assignments
Our learning target for this unit is: Student can describe the advancements of Ancient Greece and its legacy. Students will:
- Provide examples of each type of advancements
- Explain the legacy of a civilization
- Compare and Contrast the advancements of civilizations
Unit Plan/Objective Sheet: This document shows the level of proficiency required to meet the standard along with a calendar of assignments and when they are due.
This Week
Monday: Level 3 Project
Tuesday: Level 3 Project
Wednesday: Level 3 Project
Thursday: Project Due
Friday: Test Review
English Language Arts
This Week:
We are excited to get started on our research projects! We have chosen our topics and we are ready to start exploring reliable websites and taking notes using several sources.
This is a friendly reminder that ALL 6th graders should be READING 30 MINUTES EVERY NIGHT.
Our learning target for this week is:
W1A. Conduct research to answer a question drawing on several sources, integrate information using a standard citation system.
Our Essential Learning Objectives (ELOs) for 3rd quarter: (RL = Reading Literature and RI = Reading Informational)
RI1D - Explain the central/main idea(s) of a nonfiction text and cite evidence of its development
W1A - Conduct research to answer a question, drawing on several sources; integrate information using a standard citation system. Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility of each source, and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and providing basic bibliographic information for sources.
W2A - Follow a writing process to produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, style, and voice are appropriate to the task, purpose, and audience; develop writing with narrative, expository, and argumentative techniques.
b. Expository: Develop informative/explanatory writing to examine a topic with relevant facts, examples, and details.
RL3D/RI3D - Read and comprehend literature and informational text independently and proficiently.

Environmental Science
This week:
This week we will start to learn how climate change has impacted the environment.
Our essential learning targets for this unit:
- SC.6-8.ESS3.3- Analyze data to define the relationship for how increases in human population and per-capita consumption of natural resources impact Earth's systems.
- SC.6-8.ESS3.5- Analyze evidence of the factors that have caused the change in global temperatures over the past century.
- SC.6-8.ESS3.4- Apply scientific principles to design a method for monitoring and minimizing a human impact on the environment.
