Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
January 8, 2021
Colts,
Welcome back! We are off and running this second semester. Our students have quickly adapted and begun the semester well.
I am proud of our students' hard work and dedication with adapting to the challenges of the blended learning model during the first semester. Pictured in a chart below in this newsletter you will find we had 76% of all our students with straight A averages and nearly 93% of our students with B averages or better. What fantastic statistics showing our students' academic grit!
I am confident we will see many more qualitative and quantitative stats like this during the second semester because of our overall culture of excellence at CMS. Thank you for the positive role you play in helping us continue to build an excellent school together. As always, have a great weekend and week ahead!

8th Grade Parents
4 Year Planning: Mrs. Bouchelle and Mrs Brizzi have finished meeting with 8th grade students individually and have everyone’s 4 year plan and endorsement entered into Skyward. You should have received an email requesting that you review and electronically sign both the plan and the endorsement(s). We have extended the original deadline for signing for the endorsement and the 4 year plan to January 15th. If you have not done so by this date, your student’s plan and endorsement will automatically be signed for you. Please let us know if there is anything listed under the “freshman” year that needs to be corrected as these courses will become your student’s actual freshman schedule. Sophomore-Senior course selections are only considered a possible “plan” and will not become a student’s future schedule, so there is no need to change or correct these at this time.
On January 8th, the high school counselors hosted a Webex meeting for CMS 8th graders during advisory to welcome them to high school. On Feb. 4th, students will meet individually with their high school counselor via Webex and will be given one final opportunity to make changes to their freshman course selections.
In addition to these student meetings. parent nights for both high school campuses have also been scheduled. Mustang Nation Showcase (GHS) will be Thursday, January 14th and Panther Showcase (CHHS) will be Monday, January 25th. Details will be available as we approach those dates. Both events will be online this year.

Character Strong
Our district has adopted Character Strong as a way to support the social/emotional wellbeing and character development of our students. All GCISD secondary campuses will be focusing on the character trait/skill of KINDNESS for the month of January. Students will view the newest character video in school at the beginning of each month. We want to encourage you to also view it together as a family and find ways to work on the monthly trait/skill together. January Kindness Video
Also, as we build a strong connection with our community to support social emotional wellness, we will continue to share out the Family Character Dares for an extension into your home. Here is the latest!

Pre-AP Label Change
Next school year, the College Board will be requiring school districts to pay a fee if they use the Pre-AP label for any of their courses. This fee is an annual fee that is per course, per campus. GCISD along with many neighboring districts, have decided not to purchase the use of the Pre-AP label in an effort to remain fiscally responsible.
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, GCISD will be implementing the title change to “Advanced” for all courses formerly known as Pre-AP. This change will be reflected in the 2021-22 Course Selection Guide set to release in January of 2021. As an example, Pre-AP World History will now be labeled as World History Advanced.
GCISD will use AP's guidelines to ensure the rigor of both middle school and high school courses. Classes now labeled “Advanced” will remain the same weight as the PreAP courses they are replacing. GCISD will continue to work with the College Board through our AP offerings.
