Here comes October...
What you really need to know
Thank you for signing up for your parent conference and for Mystery Reader visits. I look forward to beginning our meetings this Tuesday, October 2 at our first conference day to discuss your child's adjustment to kindergarten. The rest of you get a day off. Or a day on, as the case may be :) Our other fall conference days are October 25 and November 28. I'll see the rest of you then.
Our bulb garden is all snug as a bug and has been very well watered this week. Your children are excited to tend the garden this year and to see what you planted for them in the spring.
Happy Birthday to Nicholas!
Thank you to our intrepid mystery readers for choosing awesome stories to share with us.
Nina's dad Jim came in to read (and sing!) Pete The Cat: I Love My White Shoes and Claire's big sister Abby came down from third grade to read The Way I Feel.

All in a days work...
- We have played math games with our math partners, explored many math materials, learned to write numbers 1-4 the Kindergarten way (always start at the top), AND we met Mrs. Heins our math coach!
- We met Mrs. Martell, our technology teacher and used our iPads to draw with the Rocket Paint app.
- We me our first classroom pet, Nola the spotted gecko. She pulled out all of the stops, showing her many talents. She even pooped on Mrs. Cohen and shed her skin for us. In other news, she enjoys eating mealworms and taking naps. We are also about to be introduced to our painted lady caterpillars and will observe their sure-to-be-exciting developments in the coming weeks.
- We have been exercising our fingers every day, practicing play dough rolling, lego building, cutting out shapes, playing with moon sand and using scratch paint paper! We've also taken plenty of movement breaks to keep our bodies active. So far, we've tried yoga and a silly dance video called Pop See Koo. We also learned The Follow Directions Song and Baby Shark. I'm doing everything I can to wear them out for you. Kindergarten is usually pleasantly exhausting.
- We are learning to read color words and have practiced looking for word and picture clues around the room by "writing the room" for the first time. We'll do this activity with different prompts all year long.
- More Firsts: We drew our self portraits. We made our first collaborative book (based on Brown Bear, Brown Bear) with everyone's name in it and we each made our own personal book about Pete the Cat. We also wrote our first weekend news reports. So yeah, not only can we read, we can also write!! You'll be amazed at how our writing and storytelling will progress throughout the year.
