To our Sonora Families,

As many of you know, Springdale Schools will be doing Remote Teaching/Learning Days on Friday, October 16th and Monday, October 19th. This means that all students and staff will be practicing for remote learning from home. As the COVID pandemic progresses, it is important for us all to be confident that high quality teaching and learning will continue, whether we are on site or at home. I can confidently say that our teachers and students have worked diligently to practice using the devices and the process for accessing and submitting assignments.

At Sonora we want to use these Remote Teaching/Learning Days to do something a little different. Since the majority of our students have had increased screen time during the year, we want to give our students a break from screen time. Devices like Chromebooks and iPads will not go home on these days, allowing them to be fully charged on Tuesday, October 20th. Instead of electronic work, we want our students to participate in making, where the makerspace will be your homes. See the videos below for more information about the Sonora Imagination Station as well as about making.

Making allows our students to have an opportunity to explore their own interested; learn to use tools and materials, and develop creative projects. We have a Makerspace at Sonora, but we want to use our remote learning days to extend this opportunity outside of our school walls and to our families.

We will be sending home the tools and/or directions for our students to engage in a grade/age level appropriate maker challenge. The teachers will spend time preparing the students for this work prior to October 16th. We can’t wait to see what they create!

As always, we will also be sending home books for our students to continue their reading life!
