Webb Counselor News
J.W. Webb School Counselor wrote this for you!
August
It is amazing how in June there were not many smiles on our faces nor energy in our bodies. Now it's the total opposite. Excitement, new bulletin boards are going up, new fresh pencil smells, and there is a new energy buzzing all over our campus. It's amazing how our summer break can revive us and help us be what we were created to be; amazing educators, giving their all for the children and hoping their excitement rubs off on the children and parents. It's a new school year. New kids will be in your room, maybe you are teaching something new. I hope this year will be different. I've already made the decision to make it different. Will you join me? Here is how I'm making this year different.
*I've started a website. Check it out at http://webbcounselor.pbworks.com
*I'm starting a student council at Webb. (STUCO!) Will anyone join with me and be my co-sponsor? It will meet twice a month, on Friday's in the library. Please let me know ASAP.
*We are starting the OLWEUS program. It's an amazing and expensive bully prevention program. I NEED one person from each grade level to be on the OLWEUS committee. Please email me and let me know if you are interested. So far I only have Jenn P and Fergie helping me. I need MANY more. :) One member from every team.
*I'm leading an Anxiety prevention seminar this Monday evening at 5:30. Please tell your friends, parents of your former kids, etc. I want to help people with all types of anxiety. This will be a great way for you to learn how to deal with any anxiety you have or your students have. I hope to teach more on what the parents or y'all want to learn about.
*Another goal is to keep you more up to date on what I am doing. Let you see how to incorporate character counts more and have more resources to give you when you are in need. You will probably get more email like this one. :)
*Support you with ADHD kids in your classroom. I have some things we can add to chairs/the floor to help ADHD kids get the wiggles out. I want to focus on this and increase the options you can utilize for kids struggling with ADHD. Please ask for any items or drop by so you can see what I have. If they don't work, I'll keep looking (on Pinterest for more).
*I have some cards to help kids with anger or anxiety. Many were given out last year. If you need more, please let me know. I can also try to help you create an anxiety or anger reducing corner. I loved Jenn Picken's idea of the "go to Antarctica" to cool down. A mirror is a great addition to those corners to help the kid see their facial expression and become more self-aware of what is going on in their body.
