Bright's Weekly News

A Week in Review:

Learning is going strong in Room 315! Check out what we will be up to next week!

We will continue to study our unit on characters. At this point all students have a strong understanding that we get to know characters in the same way we may get to know a friend. We look at what they say and do and also how they interact with others in order to make inferences about them and get to know them on a deeper level. This week we even learned how to take a good character sticky note! Next week we will dive deeper and start to understand author and character point of view. By the end of the week we will be working hard on putting everything we have learned together in order to write an effective summary about the characters in our stories. Reading rotations are still going strong!

In writing we are continuing to refine our personal narratives. This week we worked on planning out our narratives and even learned how to effectively use transition words. Next week we focus on the details! How to stretch our sentences and "show" not "tell" our actions throughout our stories.

This week we will wrap up our weather unit. We will focus on heat from the sun and the water cycle. We have two fun experiments this week. We will make precipitation with shaving cream and food coloring and we will bake S'mores in our own class solar oven (: Yes, I am feeling very brave! The week of Halloween will be full of fun STEM activites too.

This week we are going head first into addition and subtraction word problems. We will learn how to identify what a problem is asking and will focus on strategies we can use to solve problems effectively. We will be doing our time and money unit soon. Continue to have your child practice telling time on an analog clock and encourage them to count coins!

Upcoming Dates:

*Conferences start next week! I will send out reminders on DOJO this weekend for days and times!

*Homework will be changing after the first quarter to better meet all learning styles and needs. Length of time shouldn't change, just the format! I will send more information about this change soon!
