FMS 8th Grade Newsletter: For the Week of May 4 - 8
8th graders and Parents
We need your input. Each year the School Counseling Department has the 8th graders and their parents complete a questionnaire. We know our school year was cut short, but we would still like to receive feedback on the things we are doing well and things you feel we could improve upon. We look forward to hearing from you. Please click on the appropriate link for students and parents. This is also located in the school counseling portion of the Explo Smore. You will only need to complete this one time. We ask that you respond by May 8th
Thank You!

Theme for the Week: Energy Transfer
Last week you learned about what a Rube Goldberg Machine is along with seeing examples of some. This week you get to make your own.
- Create a Rube Goldbery Machine with at least 3 “sections or energy transfers”. Make sure your machine completes a simple task at the end.
- Send a video of your completed machine to your teacher.
- Complete google form about your machine. The form will be posted on google classroom.
Social Studies
Have you ever heard of a penpal? Sure you can text, email, call or FaceTime - but that’s easy. This week, we want you to pick a friend or classmate and write them a one page letter or card. Then find their address and snail mail it to them. I know, I know, it takes a few more steps than using technology, but trust us, eveyone loves getting a letter.
As you consider who to write to, think about writing your grandparents or an older adult (who probably used penpals all of the time before technology took over). They would love to get a card in the mail instead of just bills. Or you could write to a cousin or friend you don't see often.
In the letter, just tell them what's going on in your life. (e.g. I have chores I do everyday, I’ve been playing this game, I’ve been studying for the ACT, etc.) Handwrite the letter, and have your parents help you fill out the envelope if you don’t know how. Lastly, ask the person to write you back. Let's see how many letters we can mail and receive!
