PLEA to our Parents...

Please continue to read our corporation newsletters. We will address items, such as:

1. Student supplies at buildings

2. Graduation and Seniors

3. Ability to enter buildings by staff

Information is updated daily by Gov. Holcomb and Indiana Dept. of Education. We follow their lead on when we can have staff and students back in our buildings.

We can NOT have students clean out lockers or desks. We are unable to refund field trip money, etc... at this time. We will notify you on when we can fulfill these requests; however, please do NOT call our offices in regards to items such as this. This fills our voicemail boxes quickly, and we are unable to obtain the "vital" messages which warrant immediate attention.

We ask for your patience as we continue to address your questions and concerns. Thank you!

Textbook Fees

We know that this is a hard time for our parents, guardians, and community, so we at Griffith Public Schools, have decided to extend the student fees due date. The new extended due date for paying student fees is now July 1, 2020.

Due to the closure of the schools, payments will not be accepted in person. Parents/guardians can continue to make online payments via the E-funds website located at https://payments.efundsforschools.com/v3/districts/56262/. Once on the website, please follow the prompts to access your student’s fees. Payments can also be mailed to Griffith Public Schools, 602 N. Raymond, Griffith, IN 46319. Please make sure to reference your student’s name and student number, if available, with the payment.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding student fees please contact the Bookkeeper via email at lbishop@griffith.k12.in.us.

Stay healthy and safe.

Griffith Public Schools

Kindergarten Registration Update

Griffith Public Schools is postponing Kindergarten Registration at this time; however, parents of incoming kindergarten students can still enroll their child through our online portal. This portal will be located on our website. It will remain open until further notice.

We will still require the following once our elementary offices are open to the public:

    • Bring child's original birth certificate and immunization records.
    • To be eligible for kindergarten, child must be 5 years old on or before October 1, 2020 for the 2020/21 school year, parent/legal guardian can write a letter of appeal to the building principal by August 2020. Superintendent has the final decision on the enrollment of child into kindergarten.
    • Enrollment is open to only Griffith residents. Please make sure to bring proof of residency!
  • Reminder for Seniors of 2020

We continually understand the disappointment and frustration you must feel in this unfortunate crisis. The state and school corporations are working to ensure that you graduate on time. However, you still need to do your part in this by continuing to participate in the remaining eLearning Days scheduled through May 22nd. If you have:

    1. Met all of the course and credit requirements for the specific diploma designation based on a combination of high school credits earned prior to and that courses in which you were enrolled as of March 19, 2020, when the Governor issued the statewide school closure, and

    2. You meet any virtual or remote learning participation requirements established by the school corporation, you will earn your diploma and graduate on time.

AGAIN, you MUST continue to participate and complete assignments during the eLearning Days!

Those seniors that are low on credits will be contacted by our school counselors to determine next steps. Graduation is NOT guaranteed for you!

Griffith Public Schools will make every attempt to recognize some of the senior events. If possible, these events will be held at a later date if the virus timeline subsides and allows for larger gatherings. If not, we will also consider some alternative ceremony ideas. These decisions will be made by the GHS administration and the school corporation. Please watch for more information!

Reminder for Students in Grades 7 - 11

GMS and GHS students in Grades 7 - 11 still MUST complete ALL eLearning assignments in order to receive full credit for current courses. You will receive a letter grade for each course that will go on your transcripts. Your completion of eLearning assignments will be part of the determination of whether you are able to go on to the next grade level or not. If questions, please email your school counselor or building principal.

Reminder for Parents of Students in Grades K - 6

Elementary students still MUST complete ALL eLearning assignments in order to receive full credit for grade level. Your completion of eLearning assignments will be part of the determination of whether you are able to go on to the next grade level or not. If questions, please email your teacher or building principal.

Are counselors still available to Students and their families?

Our counselors, school service providers, deans, and all administrators at each building are available for our students and their families during this difficult time. They have all been sending out information to students and their families with coping strategies, helpful tips and suggestions and their contact information. Please email your counselor or other school personnel if you need any support during this time. They can communicate with students and parents via email, phone or online meetings.

    Summer School for 2020

We have not yet made a decision about high school summer school, as it pertains to Summer PE and Health. We will need to make a decision as it gets closer to the start date in June as to whether or not it is safe to run those classes. Decisions about extended school year services for students with disabilities will be made based on guidance from the state. Maintaining the safety of our students and staff is our primary concern. If students are unable to come to school for ESY services, we will provide services via distance learning opportunities.

How will students get their materials from school and return books/materials to the school?

At this time, given the orders from Gov. Holcomb, we do not feel that it is safe to allow students and their parents into the building in large groups. We know that families will need to return materials/books, borrowed iPads (for our seniors, and other materials and also need time to gather their belongings. As soon as it seems safe to do so, we will provide information about how and when this will take place. Please be patient! Thank you!

What happens to my child's food account?

All food service funds stay in the student's account which follows them to the next school year. Parents of senior students will receive an email from the Food Service Department taking if you wish to transfer the funds to a sibling, pay outstanding fees, or request a refund. Please stay tuned!

Will I receive a refund for field trip costs or other fees for events that were cancelled?

Any money that was collected at the building level for field trips or other spring events will be applied to outstanding textbook fees. If there are none, we can issue a refund. Please stay tuned!
