LnHS Update 10.20.23
We are LA Rams Game of the Week for Girl's Flag Football!
Dear Lancaster High School Eagle Families
The past ten days have been exciting for different reasons. We had construction start on our composites lab, our eSports/Cyber Security Lab is nearing completion, we hosted the school-day PSAT event, we had a student-free day where teachers were able to collaborate in making your student's academic experience better, and we shook out in our earthquake drill.
We aren't slowing down as this week we are competing in our first Cyber Security competition, which puts our Computer Science Pathway to the test, we host the LA Rams girls' game of the week (see info below), and we have a huge match-up tonight vs. Antelope Valley High School (at AVHS) in a football game that has huge playoff implications. This week also marked the beginning of the second quarter. If student grades aren't where you desire, this is the quarter to step up and get back on track. Our Eagles are soaring in many areas and it is exciting to witness!

Yearbook and Senior Pics
Hello Senior parents!
I have a few announcements for you from the Yearbook staff and two attachments. Please reach out directly to jgriffey@avhsd.org if you have any questions.
1.) Senior portraits are due to be booked by October 31st. So far only about 200 of our 657 seniors have taken senior portraits. I have attached photo options for you, and remember the sitting fee for just the senior portrait to be included in the yearbook is $18. Please contact O'Connor photography today to book! Since this question comes up a lot: they will automatically be sent to me.
2.) The Yearbook is officially on sale at $65 (plus tax)! The price will go up to $75 11/1 and then again to $85 in January, so be sure to lock in the lowest price of the year today! You can order through Jostens, from our student store or directly from Ms. Mendoza in accounting in-person or via telephone. You must order through Jostens if you want personalizations, icons or any other extras.
3.) Senior recognition ads are officially for sale as well through Jostens. I have attached instructions. The deadline for senior ad purchases is 12/22. Don't miss out on honoring your child's accomplishments!
Please reach out if you have any questions at jgriffey@avhsd.org. The yearbook staff has already gotten some terrific photos and we have a lot of Media Academy students in the class this year, so I feel confident this will be the best LNHS yearbook yet.

At-School Live Tutoring
VIRTUAL *LIVE* Tutoring (Virtual Tutoring with a Live Person)
Did you know that your student has LIVE 24 HOUR FREE tutoring available in your student's PowerSchool? Our district has partnered with Princeton Review to provide every student with this amazing service. Your student can be connected with a tutor in any subject any time of the day, for FREE. These are not videos, they are live, vetted, tutors. Think of Uber, but for tutoring! The tutors will even edit papers for your student with less than a 24 hour turn-a-round period.
The easiest way to access this free, live, virtual tutoring, is to have your student log into google with their school account, log into Power School, look on the left side of the screen and find the live tutor button, and follow the easy to follow directions from there. If you need assistance, CLICK HERE or the button below for a tutorial.
How does my child get lunch?
Lunch is free for all and can be found at the multiple lunch sites on campus.
This change means students are not required to complete a meal application or provide any specific documentation, however, we are still required to gather family income and demographic information to ensure that your student benefits from additional state and federal programs that are available.
The California Department of Education uses this confidential information to identify qualifications for additional funding that provides for many programs and opportunities for our students. Based on the information provided, eligible students may receive fee waivers for the PSAT, SAT, free college applications, or much more. The AVUHSD is eligible for additional supplemental and targeted funding for our student programs and services based on a variety of factors, including this data.
Lancaster parents, we need your help! Please, regardless of qualifications, or social-economic standing, please help us provide the best opportunities that we can for our students by taking the few minutes it takes to fill out this form.
