Welcome to the 2018 - 2019 School Year
Greetings Atholton Community,
As the new principal of Atholton High School, I want to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year. This first installment of the Raider Nation News hopefully finds you relaxing and enjoying a few sunny days we have had this rainy summer.
A special thank you to all the families that came out to the Meet and Greet. It was a pleasure getting to meet all of you. I hope you had an opportunity to google the video I showed and see it in its entirety. For those that missed it, click here for a laugh :-). A special thank you to our PTSA president, Kim Lowe, and all of the Boosters for their warm welcome. Everyone has been so welcoming!
This past Wednesday was the first day for tryouts for the fall season. I was thrilled to have the chance to get out and speak to some of our student athletes. In addition, I had the opportunity to stop by and visit the Section Leaders and Drum Leaders of our band during their leadership training -- truly inspiring! I cannot wait to meet the rest of the band next week during Band Camp.
On another note, our custodial team is working diligently to get the building ready for both teachers and students to return. During an Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) walk-through on July 31, mold growth was identified on two ceiling tiles in room G215. The growth was associated with a leaking pipe that has since been assessed and corrected by HCPSS Building Services. Information regarding this incident will be posted on our website once the paperwork has been completed. Please be aware that a link to all IEQ-related issues is located on our school webiste. Click here to access.
As September 4 fast approaches, parents and students are eagerly awaiting class schedules for the new year. Emails from Canvas will be sent on Monday, August 13 providing students with the list of classes for which they are registered. During the week of August 20, student schedules will be mailed with detailed information including assigned teachers and periods. Please be on the lookout for these two very important pieces of information.
My homecoming is off to a great start! I am excited about the year ahead and truly looking forward to getting to know you all.
Enjoy the remainder of your summer and see you at Back To School Night on September 6!
Regards,
Robert Motley, Principal
