Chromebook Check Ins Start June 7

River students will begin checking in devices on June 7 in their English classes. Students who do not take English at River can check devices in any time on their grade level check in date. Students being served in some of our special programs and Leiser branch campus will check in on a schedule determined by their teachers. If a student is enrolled in our summer school program, they can renew their device on the check in day for summer check out.

  • Seniors: June 7

  • Freshmen: June 9

  • Sophomores: June 10

  • Juniors: June 13

  • Running Start: can arrange a later check in to accommodate Clark finals

To avoid fines, make sure you remove all stickers/personal decorations, include the stylus ($13) and bring both parts of the charging cords ($18). Seniors who do not check in their device and clear all school fines will not be able to pick up their diplomas.

Students have been sent a list of their current check outs and fines to start getting everything turned in. We can help get materials over to other schools if you weren’t able to turn them in. Just bring any check ins to the library during regular school hours.

If you have any questions about your library, textbook or technology fees and check outs, feel free to reach out to shana.ferguson@vansd.org or linda.freeland@vansd.org.

Summer School

Summer school is currently only for credit recovery. It is not for students to get ahead and earn initial credit for classes.

We will send out the first round of Summer School Registrations next week. We will send emails to the families of students who failed a course during first semester or those who are behind in credits.

Session 1: Tuesday 21 June - Thursday 30 June

Session 2: Tuesday 2 August - Friday 12 August

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR STUDENTS FROM SPAIN/FRANCE

Would your family like to host a student from Spain or France this summer? There are several teens who would love to come and stay with you for 3-4 weeks this summer and experience the American way of life and the beautiful Pacific Northwest. You would just need to provide room/board. If you’re interested, please email Ms. Ramey at Kelly.Ramey@vansd.org.

Final Transcripts

End of year transcripts will be available in late June. If you would like a final, official transcript sent to a college, yourself, or other organization, please fill out a form (located on the wall by the Business Office) and return to Kris in the Pathways Center.

Final Clark Visit

Thursday, June 2nd 10:00-11:00am, will be the last visit of the year from the Admissions Representative at Clark College. If you have questions, need help applying, or just need more information, email Kris (kristina.walther@vansd.org) or Morgan (morgan.parker@vansd.org) to schedule your visit. We will send a pass to your class.

Speaking Up About Mental Health! This Is My Story

How can society reduce mental health stigma and foster resilience among young people?

The challenge is soliciting essays to raise the awareness of mental health and provide students an opportunity for self-expression about mental health concerns. Due by 8:59PM on 5/24/22. Total cash prizes available: $15,000. Apply here.

The 2022 Terry Bryant college scholarship

To apply for the Terry Bryant College Scholarship, a student must submit a short video in response to the following prompt:

  • If you had up to one minute with your younger self at the time you started high school, what advice would you give on how to stay safe on city streets – whether as a driver, passenger, cyclist, or pedestrian?

Each year, too many innocent people are killed or seriously injured on our nation’s roadways. In addition to fighting for injury victims through our legal system, there are other ways we can help make our streets safer. We hope that our scholarship leads to a plethora of compelling messages from our nation’s youth that will resonate with their peers. The winning applicant will receive a $2,500 scholarship for their efforts. Due by June 1, 2022.
