SEMESTER EXAMS
Parents,
Semester exams will be on December 14 - 16 for all classes including electives. Core subject areas will take benchmarks, and elective classes will have final exams and or projects. The benchmark assessments are aligned with the STAAR/EOC assessment rigor. The primary purpose of these test is to give teachers an accurate view of student data and progress. To compensate for the difficulty of the tests, the state lowers the passing standard below 70%.
Semester exams are 20% of their semester grade.

BAND STUDENTS ACHIEVE HONORS
This past week, students from both the High School and Middle school Van Alstyne band programs competed at the ATSSB Region 24 All-Region tryouts. Those students among other musicians from other area 3A and 4A schools audition for limited number of spots in the All Region Band. The Van Alstyne Middle School Band had 27 students make the band with 2 students earning top chair on their respective instrument. The Van Alstyne High School Band had 31 students make the band with 3 students earning top chair on their respective instrument. Of those 31 high school students, 13 will be advancing to the AREA round of auditions. This is the largest number of students to make All Region Band in the program's history.
All students will be attending a 2-day clinic at Princeton ISD, January 13-14. They will perform a free concert on the 2nd day of the clinic at Princeton High School with the first of four bands starting at
4:00 pm.
