Students At Work
Staff Spotlight
This week’s spotlight is on one of our awesome 1st grade teachers, Ms. Devlin. This year Ms. Devlin and her first grade team have been working hard on differentiating guided reading for their students. The team truly embodies the meaning of “All our kids, are all our kids.” Here is what Ms. Devlin had to share about herself.
“I grew up in a tiny town outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. I attended New Mexico Military Institute, in Roswell, New Mexico, for high school and my freshman year of college. After attending NMMI, I transferred to Texas Tech University, where I received my Bachelor’s and my Master’s degree. In my free time I like to play with my dog, Cooper, spend time with family and friends, and I love watching Texas Tech Baseball and Football. I started teaching because I wanted to mentor and inspire young kids, just like my favorite teachers had done for me. My favorite part of teaching is seeing my students’ get excited when they finally get a concept they have been struggling with. I love to watch them grow and learn.”

Prestwick Students Take 1st & 2nd in Sumdog Competition
Congratulations to our 2 Compacted Math classes. They worked really hard this past week to take 1st and 2nd place in the Denton County Sumdog competition.
Students are allowed 1000 questions during the competition. They answer math questions to receive points and play games. Student and classroom winners are determined by the number of CORRECT answers that they answer while playing the games. There were a good mix of questions appropriate to where they are in their math journey.
The 1/2 period Compacted Math class won the overall competition with an average score of 537 correct answers per student. The 4/5 period class finished 2nd with an average score of 509 correct answers per student.
There were 29 of our students that finished in the Top 50 list. The top player this week was Riane H, 943 correct answers; followed by: Ben P, 940, and Tim T, 902.
As their prize, 1/2 period will receive a FREE 6 month subscription to Sumdog. A subscription unlocks all of the games and opens the playing field to even more fun and learning.
