St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 6 | 3 June 2022
Message from Geordie
Good afternoon, everyone,
An exciting week here at St Bernie’s with our Year 2 students leading us through a very entertaining assembly filled with interesting facts and catchy tunes. Congratulations to all the students who worked so hard and to their teachers for supporting them.
This week our Senior Basketball Teams competed in the interschool competition and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, resilience and teamwork throughout the day. They represented our school with pride and should all be very proud of their efforts! Congratulations to our St Bernie’s Girls Team who came away undefeated and took out the interschool shield. What a huge effort against a number of other very competitive schools.
Our teachers are now well and truly stuck into their assessment and reporting cycle and so spare a thought for our teachers this long weekend – there will be many hours spent collating data, moderating, and writing and editing report comments. Teachers will also be contacting parents to discuss grades where required and we hope that all parents feel that they have a good idea of their child’s academic progress. A reminder too, that our teachers welcome open communication with our parents so if you want to discuss your child’s academic progress, please contact your teacher.
At the P&F Meeting last week I mentioned that we are very close to filling Kindy for 2023. Since then, a number of CURRENT FAMILIES have enrolled siblings, and we now have a waitlist for Kindy and some other years! I have been articulating the importance of enrolling your siblings early all year and I can’t stress how important this is. While we do our very best to accommodate siblings, if we do not know about them it is very difficult! If you have children coming through in 2023, 2024 or even 2025, please let us know as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Finally, a reminder that next Tuesday is a Pupil Free Day as our staff are on Professional Development. There was a lot of excitement for the extra-long weekend today! I will be braving the cold weather and heading north to go camping with the kids. Much to my wife’s disgust, we will be tenting so please wish us luck!
Enjoy yourselves, stay safe and we will see you back on Wednesday!
Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th June
Enrolments at St Bernie's
Great news and thanks to your wonderful referrals, St Bernie's is filling up fast and we have waitlists for some of the year groups!
Please ensure that all siblings are enrolled, even if it is for 2024 and beyond. We would hate for anyone to miss out!
After a very lengthy process and with input from the Uniform Committee and P&F Class Representatives, a decision has been made regarding uniforms. It has been decided that it is time to update our track pants and track tops! We will put images in next week's newsletter!
Once the new stock arrives at Hip Pocket, St Bernadette’s will purchase the old stock of jumpers, trackpants and dresses and will have a discount sale at school (details to follow). The old track pants and tops can still be worn until mid 2024. Semester Two 2024 student are to only wear the new track pants and tops.
All other uniform items will remain the same. We will inform the community via the newsletter when the new stock arrives at Hip Pocket.
Newsflash - Bernie's Takes Out the Basketball Shield
Two superstar Bernie's teams from Year 6 went to Mike Barnett stadium this week to compete in the interschool basketball championships. There were teams from Star of the Sea, Living Waters, South Coast, M. Christi and St Jerome's all competing for the overall shield.
Our boys team fought hard and made it to the semi finals, however didn't make it any further. Our Bernie's girls team played 7 games and were undefeated in all 7 games. Finishing off their grand final by beating Star of the Sea by 20 points. We would like to thank all the schools for their sportsmanship and our parent helpers and Mrs Bowe on the day. We loved every minute of it. Check out our new winning shield!
