Unit 5: Poetry
Students will begin learning how to create a poem and the different components that can be included. Students will be brainstorming topics that can be used create their own poems. They will also be looking at sample poems to see the difference between free verse, rhyme and rhyming patterns. The students have really enjoyed reading different kinds of poetry and are excited to begin writing their own!
This Week in Reading
Unit 5: Colonial America
The students are continuing to learn how to use reading skills as they continue to learn about Colonial America. They have been learning how to locate important dates, people, and events within a text. They, then, take that information to write summaries.
It's important that the students continue to read 35 minutes daily for homework. They should be reading their AR books so that they can take AR tests to reach their quarter reading goal. All library books are due on Friday, May 20. For this reason, I have adjusted reading goals. All parents and students have access to home connect through our school website. Please use this website to monitor your child's progress towards their AR goal and their scores on AR tests. I meet with all fourth graders weekly to check their progress. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Reading: read for 35 minutes
Math: practice facts for 10 minutes, practice with TenMarks, Xtra Math, IXL and Prodigy
