Vaccine Clinic

Thank you to everyone who allowed their child to participate in the vaccine clinic. We had over 35 students participate in the clinic.

Virtual Open House

Due to COVID concerns, our MMS Open House has been moved to September 13th at 6:00 pm virtually. More information is coming soon!

Updating Emergency Contact Information

In previous years, the district provided a blue card for parents to update their emergency contact information on a yearly basis. Due to COVID, this process is now completed online through the Focus parent portal. If you need to update your child's contact information, please update it through your parent account.

Grade Level Assemblies

We will have our grade level assemblies on August 23rd. During the grade level assembly, the admin team and Dean Warner will review our expectations, code of conduct and interventions for the school year.

4th Block: 8th Graders

5th Block: 7th Graders

6th Block: 6th Graders

School Musical Informational Meeting

We will have our first informational meeting on August 24th at 4:30 pm. During the meeting, the teachers will review the expectations of the actual audition and commitment to the show. Also, the rehearsal calendar will be provided. Parents will be required to complete a permission slip for their child to participate in the event.

Students Needed for Yearbook Staff

Our first informational meeting for those interested in joining the Yearbook Staff will be Thursday, August 26th from 4:15-5pm in the Chorus Room. Anyone interested must be in attendance. If you are unable to attend, please reach out to Mrs. Crumrine or Mr. Walter before the meeting to be eligible to participate. For those attending the meeting, please make arrangements for pick-up at 5pm in the car rider pick-up area.

Car Rider Loop Procedures

Last week our car rider loop was a success! We reduced the time to 35-40 minutes each day. With that being said, please continue to follow the updated car rider procedures:

1. Do not park on the grass median at the car rider loop. If you are caught parking on the grass, you will be asked by the admin team to remove your car and precede in line with all the other parents.

2. When you approach the car rider loop, please drive and stop at the END of the line. If parents stop at the beginning of the line, it stops the traffic flow on Hood Road and Hornets Nest Road.

3. When turning on Hornets Nest Road, parents should be in the right lane. If you are in the left lane, we will ask you to drive pass the car rider loop and make a U-turn at Mandarin Oaks Elementary. As a result, you will now be in the car rider loop lane heading north on Hornets Nest Road.

Early Release

August 25th we will have our first Early Release. Please make sure you child is picked up at 2:30 pm. Students will not be supervised after 2:30 pm.

Tardy Policy

Our tardy policy will begin on Monday, August 23rd. Please review with your child the consequences if they are late to class:

An unexcused tardy exists when a student is not in his/her seat when the bell rings. Excessive unexcused tardies will be subject to disciplinary actions. Students are only allowed four unexcused tardies in a 9 week period. When a student earns a fifth tardy within a 9 week period, a tardy referral will be processed. If a student is late to class, they will receive a tardy in student services which is located in the media center.

Does Your Child Need DCPS Transportation?

With the exception of ESE services, all families who wish to have school bus services for their child must complete a registration. The bus stop registration is now open for parents to start registering their students. Parents must have a FOCUS account and the FOCUS primary address must be current.

Below is the link to the Transportation Registration Guide page on the DCPS website. In addition, if a family uses an alternate address for a bus stop, please visit the Alternate Address Request page for further instructions on the DCPS website
