WMS Weekly Bulletin
March 18-23, 2019
I hope each of you had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break! I turned off my email for nine days and it felt so good to be able to focus on my family and friends and rejuvenate myself for the coming weeks.
We are rounding the last curve of the race getting ready to head into the straight-away (track coaches-see what I did there?). This is the time of year that flies by but requires so much attention to detail. Keep focused on the little things (lesson plans, grades, parent contacts, expectations, etc.) so the big things take care of themselves (STAAR tests, final exams, etc).
I know with the dedication and determination of each of us holding ourselves accountable, we will take on these next few weeks with gusto! Here's to a great jump back into the swing of things! Cheers (in my best leprechaun voice)! :)
Go Warhawks! And, remember, you belong here.

Week in Review
Thinking Thursday - March 21st
This week is an B-Day which means we will go BACKWARDS from 4th-1st periods after the morning session is complete.
All rosters have been updated in the WMS RTI Rosters spreadsheet to include which 8th grade scholars will attend SCIENCE tutorials. We will also have some scholars attending STAAR online tutorials who will also have a pass and have been marked in the spreadsheet.
You will receive a GREEN roster in your box for attendance and passes for all scholars by Wednesday.
New Bell Schedule Goes Live TOMORROW!
Your concerns have been heard! When scholars return from Spring Break, we will be on a new bell schedule. Scholars will have 4 minute passing period windows. This means 1 minute will be added to many of your classes. Additionally, the ending times for each period still end in increments of 5 (:00, :10, :15, etc.) to reduce confusion on when a period will end.
This information will be presented to scholars via announcements later in the week. A printable version of the bell schedule is available HERE. You can also access a version in picture form HERE. We hope this reduction in passing period times will help keep scholars in class and allow you to make positive contacts during hallway monitoring times.
We also have a modified procedure for bells in the morning prior to 8:25 AM. Please see the chart below for when different areas of the school will dismiss. Some areas are dismissed by the on-duty staffulty monitoring those locations while others are dismissed by bells you will hear. The bells during this time will be a different tone than the regular school bell you hear to change classes.

Technology Update
Relay for Life
Mitzi Bales will serve as our coordinator for WMS. Be looking for details about our WMS Relay for Life challenge and how you and your scholars can support Feathers of Hope.
Student Voice
A typical non-example would be, "You can either do the work at your desk or go to the office."
What's the scholar going to pick? Welp, you guessed it...they will get out of your room as quickly as they can. Giving a student an ultimatum choice between compliance or going to the office allows the student to choose an option removing the power of the teacher from the classroom by escaping the situation. Focus on what other options are available which may have the student still arrive at a form of compliance.
Warhawk HERO Points
Our Wellborn Warhawk quality of the week is: Be Involved.
Scholars will be able to earn Warhawk points for being involved in campus and community activities This may be more than just membership in a group, but also supporting others involvement or recruiting others to become more involved. There are many opportunities in this part of the Wellborn Way to develop connections with your scholars and conference 1:1 with them. Use your professional judgement to help determine what it means to be involved for your own scholars.
Congratulations to Mrs. Hagerman! She was the recipient of the extra conference period drawing! She will now have one of her classes covered by an administrator for an extra conference period during the upcoming week. Keep watching the bulletin for positive behavior incentives.
Have a suggestion on how to better use Warhawk Points? Talk to one of our SELT design team members to share your thoughts!
Creating Announcements
Selecting "Apply Layout" from Slide menu in Google slides will allow your slide to be pre-formatted with all of the correct boxes, fonts, and colors. Most users can use the "Title + 1 Column" style to meet all of their needs.
Food Pantry Needs
We are running low on some supplies in the food pantry that our scholars need for Spring Break. If you are willing to donate any of the following items, it would be appreciated. Just email Coach Doles and she will come get the items from you.
Needed items:
- Snacks (peanut butter crackers, rice krispie treats, Nutra-grain bars, Pop Tarts)
- Canned soup (chicken noodle, tomato, etc)
- Crackers (Ritz is a favorite)
- Milk (must be boxed on the shelf that does not have to be refrigerated until opened)
- Toilet paper
- Ramen noodles (the cups are easier because it is something the kids can make themselves)
- Shampoo/Conditioner
